Hanoi in February  :happydance:

You'll have a whole new feel for summer once you experience Hanoi, I've grown up with some pretty hot weather being in Australia all my life but Hanoi this August certainly put me to the test :eek: 45c the temp said for the day to which I thought "no problem I can handle that", only difference is our heat in Australia is rather dry and Hanoi was 100% humidity...it near xxxxing killed me :Shocked:

To get a real feel for Hanoi the Old Quarter is the best for street food and central to everything.

Must see's in Hanoi, Halong Bay with an overnight ship cruise and Trang An ( Halong Bay on land )

It will my 4-th time in Hanoi, but the first for my girlfriend  :).
The humidity is high there, right, but it is high here too.
I plan to spend 3 days in Halong bay. I have been there once, 2 days trip and I liked it. Let's hope the weather won't let me down.

- I should have bought the tickets to Phu Quoc instead of flying to Hanoi, but remembered about this island too late(.

- earlier today walking through Tunjungan Mall, Surabaya, wifey says she'll be going back to an iPhone next time. I ask WHY? :crazy1:

- She says, "Well, show me how the heck you snapshot the screen on an Android"

+ never having done this, I echo the phrase into Google and within 5 seconds of her last utterance, I say "volume down and power together". She tries it. 2 minutes silence. Then she says "I'll think of something else".

 :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

+ With the release of the iPhone 7 the price of the iPhone 6 should come down.

+ This means that I might be able to replace my iPhone 5 with an iPhone 6

+ My son who has an iPhone 4 will inherit my iPhone 5 if I get an iPhone 6

++ I think I will just keep my iPhone 5 on it's current plan (a lot cheaper as a "bring your own phone"). It still phones.

- Son will be unhappy.

- I am not too pleased at Apple's news about them dropping the 3.5mm jack...I know wireless is the future and all that, but their Airpods that they mentioned costs more than my Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 did. That's a lot of dosh for earphones :undecided:

+ I got my Mi Band 2 a few weeks ago and I am enjoying it thus far. The Smart Unlock where it bypasses my password on my phone when it is near is quite handy (I store passwords needed for work on my phone so a password is a must-have) and the battery life is decent. I have it set to track my steps, sleep, to wake me up every morning with a light vibration and notify me of phone calls and messages and I still get two weeks' worth of battery life out of it. It also has a heartrate monitor and as a bonus it also tells the time :lol:

+++ Friday tomorrow :mrgreen:

They've supplied the adaptor for those that still wish to use the ancient 3.5 jack but they also supply corded headphones with the lightning connection so I don't see why everyone is to concerned as you're still not forced to buy the AirPods though the AirPods do have some advantages like not having cords dangling around and better drivers than the standard supplied ones so I may look at them when they're released in October.

All phones will eventually remove the 3.5 jack as it's just not capable of reproducing the sound quality that can be achieved now days but Apple is going to cop a lot of flak over the move due to there huge user base, no one complained when the Moto V did exactly the same thing at the beginning of the year.

+ I've been to Manila once before
++ It was one of the best "runs ashore" that I'd ever had
+++ Very friendly locals
++++ Very cheap everything
- It was probably the most dangerous place I'd ever visited, I didn't feel comfortable in some situations (turn a corner and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up)
-- I felt it was more dangerous than Karachi, Djibouti, Jeddah, Port Said, Kuwait, etc
+ Cans of San Miguel beer were 40c
+ Night golf around the old fort was good fun

Flew in ahead of my Indonesian mates. I flew business class, they're flying Herc. Half a day to myself, then again after they leave. We're visiting Philippine Air Force for a week.

Oh boy am I collecting interesting intel on these trips. I might have to farm myself out as a S E Asia analyst to Aussie think tanks in my retirement. You can't learn this stuff reading about it!

- I finally very recently got hit by a bunch of adware trojans. One of my Indo classmates asked for my help modifying footage of himself pistol shooting which was taken mistakenly in time lapse, making him look like a Benny Hill extra. :rofl: So I downloaded a suitable video program but against my better judgement tried some serial cracks to go with it. Yep, installed lots more than wanted!

+ I searched for some solution for the particular type of infection, forget now but including a lot of banner ads in pages including this forum, redirects and search hijacks, and found a promising scanner/cleaner which said it was free. The scanning came up with 94 files and registry keys needing cleanup.

- the free cleaner then asked for registration before doing the cleaning.

+ instead, I used the listed results to manually remove files and reg keys, all 94 of them :victory:

That'll learn me for behaving as freely with Windoze as I do with Linux :lol:

Good end result :goodjob: was this a Windows system or your Puppy? Malwarebytes would be a recommended tool in these instances.

I see you just added Windows :)

Yeah, I'm heavily reliant on the compatibility of the Staff College's MS-Office resources, but frankly had I made the effort I could have been doing everything in Puppy, not just everything but the college work. :crazy1:

+ first hotel morning wakeup in awesome Perth, straight to the gym, then a long hot shower and a generously accommodating @CraigB waiting with lovely Kamini to drag us away to meet up with the colourful @Just Rick and witty @Doggie 1 and their lovely wives as well as the irrepressable @neptune.

+ choice of venue for breakfast at the B Shed in Fremantle was tops :goodjob:

+ the drive up the coast and back and up to the Botanic Gardens overlooking Perth and the Swan River estuary was awesome, allowing us to drink in the fresh, clean WA atmosphere.

+ still yet to find any negatives to Perth except perhaps that our time here is limited.

Thank you Sandgroper contingent of the i30 forum for your welcome, time and good humour. You've been magnificent ambassadors for the West end of the country, and to @CraigB and Kamini in particular for the VIP treatment with the ride in a very nicely setup i30 2-door. Your insight has certainly enriched our experience, and it's only our first full day in-country. :crazy1:

++ it's not over yet! :happydance:
