Brill pictures.

The paint job really makes the light stand out.

Cheers.

So you can imagine what they are like at night! (Plus the colouring is spot on. Proper white colour. No stupid colours like you see on most HiD conversions)

The blue in the photos is when you are just on the beam edge. I was trying to show the enhanced blue colouring on the beam edge.

Will try to take some tonight, against a white wall to show you what I mean.

Hey Thumper,

I am really interested in the Scanguage II. How much do you attribute to it in  acheiving the 3 L/100 economy figure in you image?

Rustbucket

Scangauge II  is just a measurement device. It doesn't improve fuel efficiency.

Hi Dave,

I know that the scanguage is only a measurement device and only provides info and its driving habits that ultimately determine economy. What I was asking of Thumper was, did he feel the info provided by the Scanguage was helpful in decision making re driving technques in real time situations as an aid to his achieving good economy figures.

regards

Rustbucket

Hey Thumper,

Excluding labour what do you reckon all you mods have cost in total (I'm guessing only about $1200?)

Maybe we could have a guessing competition.... :P

Heh, you DON'T want to know what the lights cost, brand new. (You won't get much change from $1,000) This is BEFORE they are opened up and painted!

As for how I managed the 3lt/100km for 600 odd km's, easy! (One of the secrets you can find on this forum!) *Hint hint*

Seriously though, yes, the Scangauge helps in watching intercooler temps, instant fuel use, engine load and boost pressure.

Oh, and don't go over 2,000rpm  8-)

Thanks for the info Thumper,

re the Scanguage II. Answer appears that its not just a toy but quite a useful item and worth the investment.

Thanks again,

Rbucket

I'm a bit new to the car modification thing - how did you remove the "i30" from your boot without damaging the paint work?

Hmm, I thought I had done a write up on removing the badges?

Might do one, since I have all the photos here.

Parts needed, a normal hairdryer, some metho and a little bit of paint polish (If there are any scratches left over) Shouldn't be, but just in case.

Another method is using fishing line to 'cut' through the glue between the badge and the paint.

I assume the metho is for removing any residual glue (or maybe softening the glue).  It might be worth a try using either eucalyptus oil of teatree oil as these have worked well with many glues and adhesives that I have tried.

Do you get paint protection before or after you've removed the badges?

I do my own waxing, rust protection and under body sealant was added before I even saw the vehicle (Ex-Demo)

under body sealant

On my UK i30 this was done at the factory BUT there is a section, rear left side, directly above the exhaust mainfold which has not been done.

Any other UK models with black sealer missing?

I have just bought scangauge 2, and I like to know do you use diesel a or diesel b settings because it seems that both works but gives little different values..

Are they the same tail-lights currently on ebay?

On diesel A, mine agrees closely with the i30's inbuilt trip computer for fuel economy, as long as the air conditioning is turned on. When the aircon is off, the Scangauge's fuel economy reading is too high by maybe 30%
