I have to admit to being a long time fan of the Bee Gees. RIP Robin.
As some of you would know they started off in Brisbane after emigrating from th eUK with their parents. The twins were still in short pants during their first TV appearances.
Some interesting history.
They were first discoverd by two locals. Onea radio announcer (and touring car race driver of some note in the years to come). His name was Bill Gates (true - this was in the 60's). And Redcliffe speedway promoter Bill Goode who went on to be the promoter at the Exhibition Speedway in Brisbane and Archerfield Speedway.
At Bill Gates' prompting, Bill Goode engaged them to perform at intermission at Redcliffe Speedway.
The name Bee Gees is generally acknowledged to come from the initials of these two men and older brother Barry Gibb.
Nancy Knudsen, a well known TV presenter back then eventually refused to have them on her show any more as a result of the non-stop fould language the younger pair used.
They went on to have several hits in Australia, then got on a ship back to England to continue their careers. IIRC, while on the ship they got word that their latest Australian release, "Spicks and Specks" had gone to #1.
In Brisbane they were living in a little, run-down bayside community called Cribb Island which has subsequently been totally erased from the map and sits somewhere under the current Brisbane Airport.
