Hi All - I have just downsized to an i30 2.0crdi Premium. Can anyone give me any advice on things I should look out for? It's a 2009 MY, so looks a bit like a washing machine on wheels, but it goes quickly. Liking the cruise, leather, auto everything and even arse warmers!

So long as you don't go for a "tumble" you'll be OK.

Thanks folks. I have already had a nice email from my dealer giving me a free service for their shocking initial experience...things are on the up!

What was that all about?

We have already heard from Martin88 in Newcastle and his experience when arranging to collect his car.

You didn't use the same dealer as him did you?

Have I made a schoolboy error in going for a 2.0 over the 1.6?

I don't think so as it is auto plus the extra's you will get over the 1.6..

I've never driven an auto but would expect the 2l engine to be a better option on the auto.

I have a manual, 6sp. I have always found autos never to be right for me. Still, whilst I a miserly coasting at 45mph in 6th gear, an auto usually is still in 4th holding >2k rpm.

The dealer initially told me to take my car back where I had bought it from, but a quick call to Head Office and all was sorted out. The service from HO really was kickass.

The car I have taken on has only covered low mileage, and I am intersted to see it still has 12k service intervals, but no sign of when a cambelt is due?

Does anyone know if it is belt or chain  driven?

No, I think it's a different dealer. I actually bought the car used from an Indy, and was looking at a golf, e-class and lexus is in comaprison. Pretty unfair really as the last two are a different league. I guess the miser in me was seduced by the warranty, and the fact that mine has only done 11k miles in 3 years.....so far....so good.

The 2.0 Crdi was never sold in OZ. The 1.6 has a chain but think the 2.0 has a belt (someone will correct me if I'm wrong)

The few members who have the 2.0Ltr over your way are very happy with theirs - is supposed to be a great package in Premium trim

Enough of this "in another class" your model i30 holds it own with many a car/brand that is dearer to buy  :whistler:

No worries folks. I have just done a 500 mile round trip and it is ace. In terms of another class, I still hold that opinion about the e-class and golf, but you know what? You get a bit more than you pay for my the i30.

The reason I bought mine was simple, low mileage, and long warranty as well as 60% off RRP through depreciation after just over 2 years.

If I had bought it new and seen the value depreciate I'd be heartbroken, specifically as the civics and golf at a similar price point hold their value so well. Still, ho-hum, their loss is my gain!

Just waiting to see is anyone comes back to me with a belt change interval.

The only change I would make it to swap out the firm 17 inch wheels for smaller, comfier set. I must be getting old before my time. (As well as having seen the cost of 225/45/17V's)

Nice one! I had some worries that it might be at 30k or something daft like that.

Amazing how little is actually done at routine service isn't it? You'd have thought they could beef out the list by adding comments like "Make the mug who has walked through the door a coffee? Maybe tell them that they really ought to partex for latest model? Let;s go mad and "wash and Vac the vehicle? Flog tyres?"

That's interesting Steve. I'm sure our 2 litre petrol is scheduled for replacement at 90,000 Klms.

All makes sense now. We don't have any 2 litre diesels in Oz. THAT much I know. (I think  :-[)
