Hi there.

Bought a i30 from 2010 and a cable to connect to our 2 iPhones (3GS and 4S). But when we connect it then it always starts playing all the music files in alphabetical order. The only thing I can do is skip forever and ever if I want to find a specific number.

I really want to listen to podcasts, but this is just silly. IS THERE ANY WAY THAT YOU CAN ACCESS MUSIC/PODCASTS ON AN IPHONE OTHER THAN ALL FILES AT ONCE IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER?

Do you have a genuine Hyundai cable or an eBay clone?

The reason I ask is that when I first brought my i30, I purchased a non-genuine cable off eBay and it did exactly the same thing you are describing. When I got a genuine Hyundai cable, the problem disappeared.

Welcome to the club.. I have only used Thumb drives in our two i30's but quite a few use their phones so someone should be  able to help (But please be patient for replies)

It's a eBay cable - I can't get myself to shell out 110 dollars for a USB cable... Aren't there any alternatives?

Hello mate,

As I see it you have a number of options;

1) Get a hTc and plug it into the usb (yes I hate Apple).
2) Buy a USB thumb drive and throw your music on it
3) search ebay for a genuine cable which is cheaper than the stealer price (the wreckers might have one too).

Perhaps I've got a different head unit, but I just use my Apple iPod cable with my iPhone. When the input is on USB, hold in the tune knob on the right and it will beep, and give you an iPod/iPhone specific menu.

Not sure to be honest. I just found it out when I got frustrated with the radio and wanted to see if I could find iPod controls on it. Might be in the manual for the radio, but tbh I'm not someone who reads instructions

Sorry to report that holding in the right knob on the radio does not bring forth a iPod/iPhone menu... - right now I am thinking of going old school with a 3,5mm - 3,5mm AUX cable and just use the menu on the phone.

Just as a matter of interest, can someone with a multimeter test the continuity and resistance of the individual terminals on an original /hyundai ipod cable. I'd like to know what's so special about them. I'd do it myself except I don't own any i devices, or posses such a cable.  Thanks, in anticipation

Phil, when I brought my genuine cable, I compared it with the fleabay clone. I threw the clone in the bin, but from memory, I noticed that there was one more connection surface on the 3mm plug of the genuine cable. Genuine had 4, clone had 3.

One other thing I've noticed with iPod cables on fleabay is that the genuine cables all have a clear plastic protective cover for the iPod connector, while the clones have a black cover.

Korben is correct.
I compared the photo of his radio/cd head unit – I have the same one (i30 build date 11/2011).
When I took delivery of the car, I was given a separate radio/cd user manual – the salesman said this was a new radio/cd unit and the car user manual had not yet been updated. The new/separate user manual describes this as model number FD-01 (not at all consistent with old model numbering?), and the front page has the comments “includes Bluetooth, Made for iPod, Works with iPhone”.
I switched on the car ignition, then plugged my iPhone 3GS with its standard Apple USB cable into the i30’s USB port in the centre armrest/storage bin. The iPhone immediately started, and its recharge indicator showed it had commenced to recharge its battery.  The i30 radio/CD head unit indicated an iPod/iPhone was attached. I followed Korben’s instructions and held down the Head Unit’s radio tuning knob for 3 seconds and the screen beeped and  switched to “Playlist”. Turning the knob to the right, cycled through the individual playlists; pushing the Knob again selected the current one. The same routine cycled through the Albums, Artists, and Songs – just as you would on the iPhone itself.
Thanks Korben – I was monitoring this discussion thread and had almost concluded that I needed to buy a “genuine” Hyundai cable. I owe you a beer Mate!
Conclusion – owner’s of older i30’s need to upgrade to 2012 model....

tIf we knew the pin outs & resistances it shouldn't be too hard to duplicate the real thing.
