In February at the Silverstone pre launch demo I was advised by the Hyundai Product manager that a software patch would be issued in June 2012 to correct the crippled instant economy display which reads only to 50 mpg.

Last week I Emailed Hyundai UK asking when the patch is expected. Here is their reply

I can confirm that there will not be a software update available, however, the issue will be corrected for future models from late 2012.
The issue only applies to the instant fuel economy reading.
The average fuel economy reading will show you beyond 50mpg.

Can't say I am surprised.

The i40 has the same sliding bar which sits even in the petrol model at cruise stuck at 50, average economy is only available on the current tank, I liked the ix20 having instant, tank and cumulative as did the original i30.

Oh well....

That's a bit disappointing.
I wonder what they consider to be "late 2012?"  :undecided:

I was told by Hyundai that the problem does not apply to Euro cars where the display uses km/litre or litres/100km rather than miles per gallon.

I figured the metric versions would be OK, but disappointing for you guys.

Alan maybe you could see if the Hyundai dealer could switch your car to metric. Maybe then it would work properly.

I am going to check that tonight, we can certainly change the GPS unit to metric and I have the ability to change some of the info display settings also......

I have checked through the settings menu on my i30 and there is no way of changing the fuel economy to metric. The only user option for economy is to set the average economy display to be reset to zero manually - or automatically when the car is refuelled.

Agree with Alan that the user can't alter it.

I wonder whether the dealers can do it via the plug in module so they can set the display for the country of use?

Surely the dealer could select that, but what other parameters would go metric as well, What about the odometer. Probably can't change just 1 option.

Well my car is "imperial" on the odometer, speedo etc, but the gps was metric until I found the menu setting to change it, so it probably can cope with a mixture of both. :undecided:

I found l/100ks hard to get used to, but having that display on the dash has helped me a lot. I'm used to it now  :goodjob2:

Having just read my last reply to this thread, I have to add the caveat of course that the audio/gps system is not linked to the driver info system and are not related to each other, apart from being in the same car :whistler:

Note to self - Have second cup of coffee before adding to the forum :-[ :-[
