For that sort of money, I would rather a body kit. I dont think I will put one on mine as it is lowered and almost scrapes going over speed humps and down drive ways now. have you considered the body kit though Cam?

The alloys look really great!

A question regarding the side protectors. Do they extend out further than, what I like to call, the 'swoosh' along the side of the doors? That is, are they effective, or are they just show?

Nice idea cam but the price of the sunroof might make you think twice. I would be guessing $2500.

$2k is the best one on offer at that Melbourne joint, who from all reports do a good job. That's for full electric, retracts invisibly into the roof and a nice sliding cover made of your internal material.
If you want just the open-shut glass with 5% tint on it, you can get it for $1-1.5k, it just depends what you want.
But yes - you can get a body kit self-imported from Korea for <$1k including shipping (but not customs, don't know what customs costs are yet)

The side protectors jut out just far enough that if someone parks next to you and opens their door onto your car, the protector should absorb their door and you won't get a red paint mark on yours.

I did consider the bodykit, but I live in a culdersac and the gutters are really high. I sometimes scrape a little bit going out now (on an angle)
So I think the bodykit would have a hard time. Its not so much the speedhumps that concern me, its primarily the gutters
:)

Thanks Mick.
The side protectors extend a reasonable way from the door. They definitely do provide protection. I had just parked in the carpark at work on a nice neat end spot the other day, a company car (with contractors in it) parked next to me and swung their doors out. This bit** hit the side of my car. Not too hard and luckily it didnt leave any damage, but the protectors stopped it from happening.

I'll try and take a closer pic from the side to give you some perspective of how far the protectors sit out.
They're brilliant though, they look good and they do their job.
:)

Thanks for that. I thought I'd read somewhere that they weren't very effective so I was having doubts as to whether I'd get them.

No worries.
I guess it depends on the height of the car thats opening the door (and ofcourse position)
It was just lucky that she opened the door on the protector and not the paint!
I wouldnt have been happy...lol

Anyways, I know how much we all love our i30 pics so I just snapped a couple more. These were taken about 15mins ago (nice sunny day finally! its been raining here all week)

Thanks Shambles.
Its a nice area, the only downside is the huge starch plant a couple of km's away.
Everyone adjusts to it, but the smell can be a bit overpowering over the first month or two. That and there is a lot of fallout

But there are downsides to every upside....right?

I'm 15mins away from the beach and a little place called Gerringong.

There is some spectacular scenery around. I'll try and take some photos today...
The sun has just disappeared but it'll come back out hopefully

I'm a couple of minutes away from the beach too, todays temp -2C.

Aberdeen is a curious place, twenty miles into the North Sea and we have oil rigs with tannoys telling the workers to be careful cos they won't last for minutes if they fell in, even in midsummer, yet back on the beach there are mothers telling their kids to stop being such big jessies and get in for a swim

Actually we see the sun a lot in this corner, probably more than some of my English compatriots because I am East of the "join" between the North Winds and the Gulf Stream.  The West Coast is warmer but sees a hell of a lot more rain.  We tend to get frosty, bright weather, I guess similar to Hemmi.

yes, I guess we have similar weather, but colder,  I live on the South West Iceland. there where clear skies yesterday, new fallen snow and the sun barely peaked above horizon, got coldest about -10°C, brrrrr. Now wind is starting to blow from south, that means warm air and probably raining, or wet snow. Winter here can be from -10° to +10°, It's colder in New York and Moscow in winter, although they're more south than Reykjavik.

Where I live the sun shines nearly every day BUT no heat from it.

It lies very low in the sky so doesn't heat the air and burn off the mist/fog/frost.

Shortest daylight hours on the 21 December.

Put the new replacement tyres.
They're still the same rim, but instead of the 225/45/17 they have 205/50/17's on them. The Michelin Pilot Sport's are an excellent tyre.
Too early to tell at this stage how the road noise is (they've only done about 20km) but they're more directional than the Kumho Ecsta's.

Here are some more pics: :D

Yes thats me walking in that pic...lol (taking rubbish to the bin for my brother who was taking photos)
And no I wasnt the one who laid rubber on the road in the last pic

Thanks Eyma + Hemmi
:)

I'm glad it was all sorted out before christmas!
I havent had passengers in the back yet so not 100% sure whether or not its still going to scrape.
But it shouldnt. The tyres sit in quite a way from the guard.

Hi Cam thanks for the pix - did you get the suspension sorted?

P.S. I'm a bit of a Michelin fan so interested in your feedback going forward

Thanks Dazz.
The car went in on Friday and they looked at the suspension. They did note that the suspension wasn't quite right but they didnt say they looked at anything. However, there is no clunking any more and it doesnt appear to be as bouncy as it was. Not going over rough roads or out of the driveway...I'll keep an eye out on it. If it starts to play up I'll tell them again.
:)

The michelins are wonderful.
I've only done about 70km's on them now, but they handle brilliantly.
Road noise is starting to quieten down. When we put them on, they were a bit noisy at first. But seeing as they're directional tyres I'm thinking they might need to wear in a little?

Sounds like it's sorted then - that's good.. :D

I had Michelins on a couple of my previous cars (I like Pirelli also) At my current rate I'll need new tyres about this time next year and would consider going to about A$180 a tyre to get something reasonable (at 16")

From looking at Junk mail the last few months cheapies in my size are around $125-$130 and middle of the range around $150-$160. I'm sure you could easily spend $300 plus for some performance tyres though.

The Michelin Pilot sport (according to the fella at tempe) were priced at around $400 a tyre for the 17's.
Not cheap..

The 18's are even worse though!
I think you need to add another $200 to the above price.

The kumho ecstas were good, and if you can get those in 16's (with the correct fitments) they would be a fantastic tyre!
I was very happy with them, only downside being that the ecstas in 17's are a BIG tyre. They would be fine in 16's though I think.
 :D
