I had a search but couldn't really find any definitive help on it.

My drivers side headrest seems to have an option to go up and down and also forward and backwards (I'm talking just the headrest here, not the seat) -- Is this true? Or is my headrest just buggered? If I grab it at the base and pull it forward -- it moves forward and you can hear it clicking (Like it's on a track) -- But it doesn't click into any of the notches? Just falls back to it's original setting. What the? How do I lock it into one of these other spots? Or is it just a safety feature or something? Or is it not meant to do this at all, only up and down? Ha ha!

Help!

I sure mine moves forward/back and clicks into position.

Absolutely pouring down at moment so will check later.

Try doing it from behind.

Perhaps I'd better qualify that remark with "sit in the rear seat and push the base of the headrest". It should click forwards and stay at each position, until you push it so far it releases and springs back.

Does the passenger side behave itself?

OK rained has stopped so managed to check this.

The headrest on the new model, well mine anyway, just goes up/down.  It does not move forward/back.

My previous i30 moved forward/back and up/down.

In my 2008 the headrests for the frontseats work just like Shambles described it.

It is easyli operated when sitting in the frontseat.

It should click forwards and stay at each position, until you push it so far it releases and springs back.

Sorted! Thanks everyone. Turns out it does adjust -- I was just pulling it all the way forward too fast / in one hit and it was releasing (As it's supposed to) back to default. If I do it slowly though, it goes one at a time and clicks :-}

I didn't even know I had this feature until I was reversing one day, and put my one hand on the driver head rest and the thing moved. I was like wtf?? then after I parked the car i played around with it to see what the deal was. My first time seeing that!

Funny isn't it. We all think there's nothing more to learn about our cars then suddenly.............
I've known about this since I got my car because I actually (horrors - for the first time ever) read the owners' manual. :whistler:

True that re: features we discover. Today getting in I realized there is a feature to move the lower part of the chair front / back to help your lower back. Could have used that last night on my 3.5 hour drive home -- I was wondering why my back was so sore! Ha ha!

^^

Actually, jokes aside, I don't think I've ever had a car with lumbar support which I've liked (the lumbar support, not the car).
I had a lower back problem through most of my younger and middle aged years and could never get comfortable in a lumbar support seat.

I can't live without it, it's usually full on for me. Wish it was on both seats.

I also have had a back issue since my early 20's and have found lumbar support invaluable, however the manual ones are never just quite right, either not enough or slightly too much, which in the i30 I believe contributed to the dead leg when driving long distance.

The electric one in the i40 though I have found I can get just right, it almost feels like pumping up an inflatable behind you and you can stop at just the right pressure :goodjob: :goodjob:
