Took my i30 in for the 60000 km service. The odometer showed 60229 when I took it in. When I got home I noticed that it was at 60304 and had significantly less fuel than I remember having.

Is this normal? The receipt shows that the vehicle was road tested & reported any defects. Does this mean they actually drive the car around? If yes, why would they drive it 70 km's?

Welcome to the forum nickp.
That amount of kms seems excessive for a service, unless a specific problem was raised with them that would require them to drive that far.

I reckon they have a damn cheek, it certainly shouldn't take more than a couple of k's to road test it....

If it was driven 70 ks then it was on the road @ 60ks for over an hour, that's far too much time and risk IMO.

I would expect a few miles or for you K's would be the norm.

You are sure it is 70 and not 7!

How certain are you of the start k's because if certain then I'd be asking for an explaination as to why so much.

I can't find it but I remember a post on here when the mechanics took a high powered car for a "blast" and the whole incident was recored, camera/blackbox.

They denied it initially until the "evidence" was shown.

When doing the bigger services on the VW/Skoda's we should perform a testdrive. It would also be ticked of on the checklist the costumer would receive.

IIRC the testdrive should contain both city and main road driving and it was expected to last minimum 10 or 15 minutes.

70 km is a very long testdrive unless a specific problem required a testdrive.

One of the benefits of the testdrive is when you drive your car every day, you slowly get used to sounds or behaviours of the car, that really shouldn't be there.
When the mechanic get in a drive the car, he will be able to hear or feel many errors that you don't notice with your everyday driving.

10 or 15 minute test drive Asterix  I'm sure anyone that serviced my cars only ever did a blockie or two 

I guess I will never know for sure but always fairly aware of my mileage and fuel level and that would inflate the hours that I got charged for (me tight, as if  )

I'm sure that the figure was 60229 before service and it was 60304 when I got home (I live about 2k's away from the service centre).

Next time, I'll be sure to check the k's before driving away and I'd recommend everyone to do the same.

Most decent workshops record an "IN" odometer reading and an "OUT" one on their job card/ work authority. It's be interesting to see if they'll show it to you.

I had a similar experience on my cars first service and as one might expect I too found the club very supportive with advice and suggestions.  However I began to doubt my own recall with regards the numbers and decided to let it go.

I am fairly certain, on reflection, that someone (technician?) had done a rather long errand and my expense.    So, whatever you decide to do, good luck.

Just tried to set the route, often used by the mechanics where I worked, in a map. About 9 km. I don't think that's far of a 10-15 minutes testdrive.

Regarding charged hours. VW/Skoda in DK have fixed price service, so the service would cost you exactly the same, no matter the time spend by the mechanic. Don't know if Hyundai in DK have same system.

Maybe they gave your car to some interested customer who wanted to do a testdrive in a i30... would be a little scandal of course - but it would also explain the 70km.

(The idea comes to my mind because once I actually wanted to testdrive a car, some dealer told me that they haven't this model at the shop for testdriving but that they expect a new vehicle of someone who has already ordered it to arrive in some days and that they could ask the future owner if he's ok when I testdrive it before he gets delivery)

Funny you should say that.
I have seen dealerships do that - take a new car ordered by someone and use it as a demo.
If I ever found out they did that with mine I would tell them where to stick it.

All the dealers I know guard their sold stock very closely
