Well I've used up my first tank of fuel in the new car since I picked it up last Friday and the details were:

Odometer:                 00978 kms
Trip (tank distance):   959.4 kms
Trip fuel economy:      5.2 l/100 kms
Fuel taken:                52.20 litres (BP)
Cost:                        AUD$76.68
Price per litre:            146.9 cents per litre

I didn't make the magic 1000 kms on the first tank full but I refuelled quite soon after the DTE was showing 0.
As it turned out, I was only able to squeeze 52.20 litres in there, brimmed to the top.
I find this car more difficult to brim than the old model but I got there in the end.
It would seem that there were still some 8 litres or so of fuel left to use but I didn't want to risk it and run out.
On the figures above, it doesn't quite equate either - 5.2l/100, 52.20 litres, 959.4 kms, but those are the numbers.

Oh, I get you, you mean if there were 8 litres still in there.
I don't know this car yet and how much fuel it will take so I'm just presuming that given the tank size is officially 53 litres I'd be able to get 60 + in there as per the last one, but then again, maybe not.

Sorry, I misunderstood your reply, I thought you meant, "Not with you" personally

Yeah, I calculated, 7.8 lts remaining if 60 was possible full tank. That seems a lot so maybe you won't get 60 in this car.

No, sorry, I just didn't understand.
You may well be right and I guess time will tell, although I seem to recall that Alan has had 60+ litres in his GD.
A bit disappointed I didn't get a full thousand out of the first tank though.   :disapp:  ;)
Cause to trade it in, I reckon.
After all, when my last car blew a brake light globe after 130,000 + kms that was it, out it went.   I want reliable cars.

I assume from the figures provided that your actual consumption was 5.44 l/100km. Which means your trip was optimistic by 0.24 l/100km. This is consistent with the sort of results I get on mixed mileage.

I doubt that your tank is any different to mine - and I have squeezed 60.7 litres in, on a fill when the trip would have shown 18 miles to empty if it didn't stop showing the figures once it fell to 35miles to empty (or thereabouts - I forget the exact figure)

Thanks Alan, yes, I agree with your calculations.
That is, of course, providing that the kms travelled are correct and that the number of litres of diesel used are 100% correct as displayed on the fuel bowser.
I agree that there should be no difference in fuel tank size too, so as I brimmed it to the very top, there must have been approximately 8 litres left to use, which is quite a lot of driving at 5.2/5.4 l/100 kms economy.

why can't I make the same numbers like you!We both have new cars but yours is more economical! The best i managed to do was 9.3 lt/100 km!city drive only...
The odo now says 420 km
1.4 diesel

I don't really know.  :undecided:
We have the 1.6 diesel, not the 1.4 and I don't know what sort of driving you do there and what the terrain is like.
Is yours a manual too?
I'm well into my second tank now and have done approaching 800 kms on this tank full and it's averaging 4.8 l/100 kms.

Yes it is.

I think Nickoss's bad economy is because it's only citydriving. If you only do short trips, less than 15 km and there's a lot of stop/start, then I wouldn't expect it do be able to do better.

Have you had the chance to give a good run on the main roads with speeds around 90 km/h and maybe 150 km trip...?

I find that for inner city driving with lots of trips under 5km the best I can do is 7-8 l/110km. This has been consistent over the last 18 months. Now done 11000 km, 6 sp manual. Not really worried because once I get out of the city consumption drops to between 4 and 6 l/100 depending on conditions.

My other car, a 10 yo Camry 4 cyl returns 14.5 l/100 in the same inner city driving pattern, so no regrets.

Yes my car is 1.4 diesel manual 6 speed the same as 1.6 gearbox.
People says that is to early to get exact results... I can't wait to get in that point. But unfortunately there is no time for extra trips beyond the city commutes!

I should add that my DTE displays 800 km every time I fill up the tank

  • 2019 PD2 Go Petrol, Manual. 30,000 kms.
I just finished my second tank full today and the figures are:

Odometer:                 02045 kms
Trip (tank distance):   1067.2 kms
Trip fuel economy:      4.8 l/100 kms
Fuel taken:                53.45 litres (BP)
Cost:                        AUD$81.19
Price per litre:            151.9 cents per litre

So while it is better than the first tank, it still seems that I had quite a few litres left, given that I was only able to fit in 53.45 litres.
But I didn't want to risk it because the DTE was showing _ _ _ and the last bar on the fuel gauge was flashing.

It is different to my last i30 though because I regularly got 58-60 litres in when I got to that stage of _ _ _ DTE.

After I filled up, I had cause to drive to Mandurah and back which is mainly highway/freeway driving and upon my return to the metro area, the trip computer is showing 4.6 l/100 kms currently (after a low of 4.5), but no doubt that will go up now that I'm back in Perth.

You are doing a bit better than me - but that is to be expected because our weather is much colder than yours and I do quite a lot of local driving. Not only that you don't have a DPF regenerating 3 times per tank which drags down the economy.

To date my car over 9800 miles has averaged 54.6 mpg (5.1 l/100 km) with a best tank of 58.8 mpg (4.8 l/100 km)

My previous i30 over 13,700 miles averaged 49.01 mpg (5.8 l/100 km) with a best tank of 53.42 mpg (5.3 l/100 km)

That is very little difference, really. I've only had two tanks but over those, mine is averaging 5.0 l/100 kms compared to your 5.1, so almost identical and as you say, you have the DPF to factor in.

Your results are incredibly good db08. My odometer is at 550 km and my average consumption is 5.9 lt/100 km. DTE shows 320 km.

I'm still in my first tank and i expect the consumption to go down after going a few thousand kilometres and when the winter ends (it is around 1-2 °C nowadays in Turkey).

I would expect it too as well but your current readings aren't that much different in reality.
The DTE probably hasn't sorted itself out yet so that may extend, but even as it is you are up to 870 kms on your first tank.  :goodjob:

I refuelled again today so have used the third tankful and here is how it stands as of today:

Odometer:                 03107 kms
Trip (tank distance):   1061.6 kms
Trip fuel economy:      4.9 l/100 kms
Fuel taken:                53.55 litres (BP)
Cost:                        AUD$80.28
Price per litre:            149.9 cents per litre

Again, it was down to a flashing DTE _ _ _ and the DTE reading went from 60+ kms to 0 in an instant but I still drove an extra 20 kms or so after that.

Here are my results;

Odometer:                 00737 kms
Trip (tank distance):   713 kms
Trip fuel economy:      5.9 l/100 kms
Fuel taken:                53.74 litres (Opet)
Cost:                        230 Turkish Liras  (approximately 100 euros)
Price per litre:            4.28 Liras per litre (approximately 1.8 euros)

Fuel light turned on at 711 kms. DTE shows 114 kms. The results aren't as good as i expected but i guess i'll reach my goal of an average between 5.5-5.7 litres average which was my 10 year average on my previous car (2003 Opel Corsa 1.7 DTI).
Could you also share your average speeds so that one can have an image in the mind on what sort of conditions you drive your car. Currently my average speed is 43 km/h.

Sure, it's currently showing 70 km/h but that isn't indicative because I went on a trip down south yesterday.
I'm pretty sure it was in the 40's on the last tank but I'll keep an eye on it.

I fuelled up again today and got my worst result since I bought the car.

Odometer:                 04157 kms
Trip (tank distance):   1050.7 kms
Trip fuel economy:      5.0 l/100 kms
Fuel taken:                54.22 litres (Caltex)
Cost:                        AUD $81.28
Price per litre:            149.9 cents per litre

Again, the DTE was showing _ _ _ after having been showing @ 70 something kms, but then dropping immediately to zero.
I filled up with Caltex Vortex Premium diesel today so I'll see how that goes.
I've done about a hundred kms today (metro driving) and the trip meter is currently showing 4.7 l/100 kms.
I'm sorry but I forgot to check the average speed before I reset to zero, but after today it's showing @ 54 km/h.

Was it hot dry heat, or humid.

Dry air is less dense and the turbo is less effective in dry air. When moist air is burned, with fuel, there is greater expansion due to the water vapour contained, like a steam engine, therefore more power.
