  • 2012 GD i30 Premium in Sleek Silver
Hi all,

Picked up my new i30 Premium at the end of November and loving it so far.  Thought I'd join and be around other people in the world who feel the same way :)

Couple of gripes I have with the car, maybe some others know how to fix these?

1. When the iPod is connected and I start the car, it doesn't remember I've set the playlist to shuffle (or "Random all") even though it can remember the exact second the song was up to when I last switched off the car.  Is there a way to fix this?

2. I've got a rattle in the boot, not constant, only when I go over a driveway or speed bump, but I can't figure out what it is and its quite loud. I've eliminated the removable parcel shelf so far, and the seat belt buckles which I thought may have been tapping on the plastic door moulding.

Cheers guys, look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I usually just Bluetooth my iPhone and it seems to be ok, I use the USB port to put a USB Drive in it with music on it and it also remembers where it was.

I have my iPhone bluetoothed to the system and it is ok, I use the USB port to run a USB Drive with music on it and it has no problems with that either.

I've wondered if you could plug in a USB drive, but do you have it set to Random All, and does it remember this when you switch off the car and back on again?

I have my iPhone connected by bluetooth, and leave my iPod in the car permanently connected by USB.  I've discovered the system leaves the setting on Random All if I don't lock the car (for example, when I've filled up with fuel) but obviously this is not practical...

Yeah the USB Drive stays on the same settings that I leave it on, where are you doing the setting for the iPod, on the Multi Media screen or on the iPod.

I'm setting it on the multi media screen.  Tried it with the iPod and the iPhone and no luck.

Ok maybe you should try putting in a USB Drive with some music on it and see if works, I have a 32 G/B in mine so there is plenty of music and the system reads WMA files as well MP3's.

Welcome Drew.

Check the spare tire, tools etc, under the floor of the boot/trunk for your rattle.

Hi Drew_81

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new car..

Not sure about the rattle .. We have the previous model. Unfortunately some rattles travel and are very hard to trace (But tools or the spare wheel mounting are a good place to start)

Picked up my Premium last week, and started to notice some occasional movement noise from the boot around Sunday. I wouldn't go as far as to call it a rattle, it's more like a slight creak (like plastic fittings moving). It's not overly noticeable but I am paranoid. I only notice it when pulling into a driveway or going over some bumps, or sometimes turning at an intersection. I took it back on the weekend for them to fix a problem with my lights not coming on inside when opening the door. They also tightened the spare wheel and attachments in the boot. Didn't seem to do the trick. Tonight I folded down the rear seats and it seems to disappear. Put them back up again, and noticed the noise again.

I also have the same issue in my Premium CRDi. A solid "clunk" like noise whenever the car goes over a bump large enough to slightly flex the chassis. My best guess so far is it is either rear passenger door is flexing (it sounds like it is coming from the left side of the vehicle), or the hatch is flexing.
Now that someone else has tried the rear seats, that also sounds like a real possibility. It doesn't annoy me all that much, as I have a more annoying problem with the front passenger seat belt alarm going of after I drive away, when there is no one in the seat.

I'm waiting for the first service to get all these things noted down & resolved where possible.

Put some tape around the U shaped thing in the chassis, that the seat locks to the chassis.

Worked for me..

  • He loves nature in spite of what it did to him..
i noticed a few small rattles and squeaks in my car for the first few months i owned it, but now after 12 months, none anywhere,  whatever was rubbing has now worn enough to no longer rattle and squeak.   actually, one of the worse ones was the driver seat. squeaked for a few months, then stopped.

In the meantime, Put the seat belt on the empty seat (like you have an invisible passenger) if you haven't already. Kills the alarm.

Shambles, I meant in the passenger seat, with his seatbelt on.
Besides, only Labradors have "L" plates.

Yeah, once I had figured out what the alarm was, it was the first thing I've done. ;)

I was kind of expecting that question.  :snigger:

Here's a (bad) pic, hope it makes sense.

It's inside the right rear door, where the backseat rest locks to the car.

Being a lazy bugger, I took whatever colour was handy.. :disapp:

Anyway, the seat is in the upright position most of the time.. :snigger:

I put masking tape around the "U shaped thing" and it seemed to lessen the occurrence. Today I added more layers, maybe it quite thick and had to push the back seats in quite hard to get it to lock. It seems to have basically disappeared now. The noise seems to be from the lock inside the seat (where it hooks onto the "U shaped thing") when going into driveways or sometimes accelerating around corners. The tape seems to give it less room to move

What if there is  an issue with the catch in the seat back?  I think I would get it looked at by the dealer.  The catch should be solid and not rattle.  Consider this:  You have tightened up the the catch in the seat back by adding more tape - wouldn't it be better to get the catch to grip the U firmly so that it didn't make a noise?

I'm not having a go at you, just trying to present another perspective for you to consider.

Yeah I'll be raising it at the 1500k service which is soon. However I'm now starting to question if its coming from the sunroof. Even with the tape I've applied, the noise (like a clunk) still happens sometimes, and I've read other threads about sunroof issues... I also found the white cream sort of substance on the sunroof railings, it was very greasy and sticky on my hands. Starting to wish I just got the Elite which was my original intention... grr

That white stuff is grease.  Needs to be there to lubricate the metal runners.  We have an ix35 with a sun roof and we've not had any issues with it.  As we have ordered a premium, I hope the noise you are experiencing isn't a common or  issue that can't be resolved.  Keep us informed.  All the best with it.
