Yes very sad, I was only thinking this morning that only a week or two ago everyone was saying happy new year and hope 2013 is better than 2012  :Pout:

Yes, I have to say that both Australia and New Zealand, indeed the whole Pacific region when you think about it, have had more than their fair share of natural disasters.

Is just the internet, mobile phone video and wider news coverage or has the whole world gone crazy.. Hurricanes and Tornados and fires etc in the USA, Tsunamis and earthquakes and stuff in Asia .. flooding and snow storms constantly rolling through Europe  :fum:

Get ready for more, Dazzler. It's climate change, my friend.

 http://m.smh.com.au/environment/climate-change/get-used-to-recordbreaking-heat-bureau-20130108-2cet5.html

I've been thinking along those lines for 10 years or more.. Many reckon it is natural cyclic change but I reckon it is happening too quickly for that

I fail to see how people can deny the existance of global warming.

- We have the highest human population ever, we create CO2.
- We are consuming energy increasingly.
- Every day, we consume 86,000,000 barrels of CO2 and heat producing oil

If you remove just these 3 factors, tell me the world wouldn't be different.

God, I hope they get in this year.
If for nothing else, at least for the financial stewardship of Australia over the next few years while they spend their time not governing, but attempting to repay all of the debt that the current government has given us.
For the sake of our kids and grandkids, I hope they do.
We all have our budgets to maintain and the Labor govt has failed miserably IM(NSH)O.

Come to Queensland, Dave,  and see the devastation our LNP government has caused based on a fraudulent "audit" of Queensland's books prepared by Peter Costello. :fum:

Dave, just read what the experts had to say about Peter Costello's audit that resulted in 14000 Queensland public servants losing their jobs.

Not being interested in what experts have to say gets us all into trouble. Just look at the ambulance/traffic light discussion.

Road safety v politics?  :undecided:
I certainly don't agree with all the so called "experts" re road safety either Terry.
I prefer common sense and I expect that people of Australia will back their feelings and beliefs at the next election. I certainly hope so.
As I've said before I think it's great that we all have different opinions. It would be a boring old world otherwise.
But I, as I'm sure you do too, base my decisions on my life experiences and I just happen to think that we have a crap federal government.
Plenty of others agree with me and plenty disagree with me too and I'm ok with that.  ;)

Its not long ago that experts were telling us all that we were going into deep freeze.
They got that wrong, now it's warming we should be aware of, and yes we are creating a hell of a lot of Co2, but we are doing what we are programmed to do. Fossil fuel is a resource, the God fearing may ask "why give us fossil fuels if we shouldnt use it"?
Man hasnt been around long enough to deliver an accurate forecast on universal & planetary cycles IMO, the weak link in that line of thought being the humans that interpret tha data. None of us will be around for the "I told you so" moment or the "Eureka" moment but we are being encouraged to hedge our bets that we can turn all this climate change drama around by paying more & more in Taxes... and build whole new industries on everyones fears like tidal & wind generating of electricity etc... call me cynical... but we wont ever know the truth, even if it is Out There....

My take is we need to do something but I fear it will be too little too late ... Industrialization and Vehicle use is growing at such a rate in places like China and India that the little bits being done by Australia and other countries have little or no hope of offsetting it (but we have to try)  :'(

I am far from a greeny but the way things are going I'm glad I wont be around at the turn of the next century  :Ouch:

Terry, regardless of the validity or otherwise of Costello's report, we could not continue spending the way Anna was.
The more she spent the greater the day of reckoning. I don't agree with everything Campbell is doing but I'm prepared to let him get on with it in whatever manner he feels is right, given the electoral mandate he received.

He should be the next PM IMO

However, why the Libs created and pushed for Workchoices, (Nochoices, IMO) I'll never understand. How to commit political suicide in an election.

The fundamental idea of Workchoices was basically sound, but you're going to have a really hard time convincing the average Australian to accept working conditions like Asia has. The cost of this, manufacturing going off shore at an alarming rate. We live off the resources industry and when that dries up, we'll be up sh1t creek.  :disapp:

Hard to accept that comment, Trev.

The present government has based it's response to our state's debt on a politically derived, discredited "audit" by a party hack. As a result,  QLDs International credit rating is down from AA+ to BB- in 9 months. :fum: Oh, it must be the Anna's  fault.

Cando promised so much and so far has delivered so little.  :fum:
