As the top speed is 116 MPH (I think) then I'm sure that cruising at 80 will be fine. Though as I mentioned it will drink petrol above 70. I'd have preferred them to have added a 6th gear for motorway driving.

I think the new model has different ratios.

My experience with 1.4 litre sized engine goes back a long way so the only current comparison I can make is that when we were in the UK two years ago we hired a 1.4L manual Vauxhaul. I was surprised to find it was quite acceptable on the motorways. On that basis, the 1.4 would seem to be the way to go, given that I reckon an auto in a small engine is not particularly desirable.

Our max legal limit in Oz varies from 62 mph, 68 mph, and unlimited, depending which state or territory you're in.

Just a heads up, Phil...The "unlimited" speed limit is actually 130kph....
