In today's Sunday Mirror, UK, there is a question being asked, not i30 but a Renault 1.9 diesel.

Question:
"Filled up at the supermarket petrol station and the average mpg on the computer showed 36mpg.  Filled up at local Shell garage and fuel consumption increased to 48 mpg.  What's going on"

Answer:
"Basically there is a quality difference between supermarkets and the major companies.  This is due to different refining processes, using different detergents and additives. I'm amazed at the huge difference. It could have been a bad batch, so worth trying experiment again."

Has anyone else noticed variations in fuel consumption with fuel bought from different garages?

I've heard this too, many times, but have yet to read an experts opinion.

I mostly use supermarket because it's easier to fill up when I've done a shop. Having said that, I preferred BP when I had my petrol MGZR as it seemed to perform much better (no noticable difference in economy though)

I used to use supermarket, but had to buy at Shell on holiday and noticed an immediate difference, giving about an extra 2-3mpg.  Now OK this is only another 30 miles per tank but this is town driving with a mileage of about 12 per day during the week so is actually another 2 days between fills.  I am going to bung some Redex in before the next fill (next weekend) and see what that does too.  I'll try and remember to report.................
