Hi y'all!

On Thursday I'll be picking up a brand new 2013 Hyundai i30 Premium GD, petrol engine in BLACK! Took it for a test drive at Ryde Motor Group yesterday and fell in love! I decided to pay the extra $$$ and get the Premium model. They said they didn't have any black, aside from the demonstrator I drove. So I asked if I could buy that! Only has 52km on it.

Can't wait to pick it up on Thursday. My car history has has been mostly hand-me-downs. Early 90s Suzuki Swift, 1999 Ford Festiva, and then I bought my first car of my own, a 1999 Holden Astra. This will be the first brand new car I've purchased. I'm VERY excited, even though the purchase has come somewhat out of necessity.

Can't wait to post some pics for you guys to see! (Not that you don't know what it looks like anyway!)

Good on you Lachlan and Welcome.

Congrats (nothing like getting a new car - especially an i30)

Sometimes I bet you wish you were Lachlan Murdoch  :whistler:

Welcome Lachlan,

Congratulations on the new purchase.  I'm a little jealous as our Premium is still on the way.  Build date was 02/02/2013, so still have a bit of a wait ahead of us.

Look forward to some picks of your new car.

Bob

What a great community I've stumbled upon. This will certainly be my first port of call whenever I have an issue, gripe, comment, or anything else i30 related!

You're luckier than you realise Lachlan85. Have a good look around, we discuss just about anything here. I feel I have made some long distance friends here, even though we haven't physically met.

Thanks guys! Such a welcoming community! I think I may have got duped into getting some sort of coating for acrylic paint or something like that. To be honest I tuned out as the girl was on the phone to me and just told her to go ahead with it.

Don't worry about it. It is a protective coating - but you could have easily done it yourself for a tenth of the cost.

I fell for it too a few years back on a new Audi............ "ns"

All I got were 4 X mud flaps, cargo liner & 4 x floor mats, but they were all supplied F.O.C. by the dealer.

We got the boot liner, a full tank of petrol, tinted windows and fixed floor mats thrown in. This was some kind of paint protection plus fabric protection plus something else I can't remember (came to a few thousand dollars extra) then they started in on paying extra for extra warranty cover or something

I didn't want the dealer to do the window tint because I wanted to get it done after-market.

I'm guessing it is because the Dealers often use the same tinter but add from 20 to 50% to the price for their margin  :whistler:

Correct.
Same tinter and I can't remember, but it was either $595 or $695 through the dealership.
I got it done for $300.
Other cars from the dealership were parked outside the tinter's when I got mine done.
Of course, I was warned by the dealership about backyard operators, voiding new car warranties and even told, would you believe, that I would be picked up by the police and given a defect notice because they see it happen every day outside their dealership with people who use "backyard" operators.
I nearly wet myself.
She tried hard to convince me.

It may well be the norm with some dealers.  We had an honest discussion with the saleswoman when we settled on our latest i30 and got offered a price that was the same as the tint shop down the road - in other words, no markup.  Decided against having it done before purchase however.

So they charge you more when you ask them to do it? (Been a long day, I think my brain expired around lunchtime). We got ours in the cost of the car, didn't pay extra (although I'm sure technically we likely did).

Picked up my Premium i30 GD today! Have driven it up to the central coast where I am spending the night. Got to give it a good free way run. Here are some quick pics I took.

And even managed to do a quick Instagram edit of myself with the car,

I'm sure you all know what the car looks like though.

Was playing around with the satnav stuff and thought I almost broke it. Hit the "update/extras" button and came up with an error. It didn't like that, but after I had the car off for a while seemed to reset itself. Cruise control works beautifully.

Any questions or requests, will be happy to oblige!
