A British man hailed as a hero for wrestling a shark away from an Australian beach said Tuesday he had been sacked after it emerged that he was on sick leave at the time.

Paul Marshallsea, a 62-year-old charity worker from Wales, won praise in January when he ran into the sea near Brisbane to grapple with the 1.8 metre (6-foot) shark, fearing it would attack paddling children.

Funny. I don't remember seeing anything about that on the news here. Neither the original incident, nor his sacking.  :undecided:

OK. Well Bulcock Beach isn't even an ocean beach. It's a little strip of sand alongside Pumicestone Passage, inside Bribie Island and actually only one block from the main street of Caloundra.
I read the local papers and watch the local news most nights. It didn't draw any significant attention here.

Anyway, serves him right. Bloody Poms always over here interfering with the wild life. :whistler:

Serves him right. A right doesn't right a wrong.
As for wildlife interference, look at the deviant trend they started when they invaded NZ ... poor sheep.  :scared:

Yep. If it really happened and at Bulcock Beach it would have been a Bull Shark. They love the canals and waterways near the coast. No intended pun on the name of the beach (at least by me).
