Hi,

I've been lurking since 2009 when I first thought of going with the i30 CRDI but it never eventuated at the time.

Well the time may have come.  Will try and have a look at this car tomorrow if I can (coming off night shift) and its still available.

http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/hyundai-i30-2008-13976751?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=1&eapi=2&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965579%204294852939%20902&num=15&silo=Stock&sort=default

i30 SLX CRDI manual hatch 74k.

Are there any specific things to look out for in these most raved about cars?

I am familiar with the diesel benefits as I currently own a Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI and an old Peugeot 405 SRDT (soon to be replaced/retired) and am quite happy to stay with the oilers.

From Latrobe in the north west of Tassie so still a 200 k round trip to inspect.

Cheers.

Welcome Neighbour (I live in Devonport)

Hey that looks like a good price for an SLX CRDi (hope it is still available when you knock off)  :fingers:

I would just take it for a good drive on city and highway looking for things that don't feel/sound right, like CV joints etc...

Fairly low mileage for a 5 year old car  :goodjob: Check the service book for regular servicing.

Don't get sucked in for a dealer warranty for hundreds, if not thousands extra though as they usually only cover what doesn't go wrong (or have big excesses)

If you like it (which I suspect you will) I would recommend you pay for an RACT check or similar just to be on the safe side. Looking for things like accident damage.

I notice it has fairly recent rego number. Hopefully the previous owners had personalised plates and it hasn't been off the road for an extended period.

If I wasn't working this afternoon I would have loved to come up with you (being as I am a co-founder of the site and had an SLX CRDi for over 2years) Edit **Don't think they will be open Good Friday?? Maybe I can help you Saturday**

If you can get it back to this area and you want me to take a look just PM me...

If it is at Motors in Launceston I have a mate that works in the Used car section at Motors Devonport that might be able to help you too...  :D

Further to my previous post, doesn't look like it is at Motors (not on their website and quite a bit less $ than they would be asking) Must have been one of the first Diesels to get Cruise  :goodjob: (my March '08 build didn't get it)

This one is newer (still under warranty) but has done nearly twice the mileage. Not bad value though at $13,995

Interesting Rego Number  :whistler:

Welcome aboard fbvisitor,

Car reads well. Check to make sure the cruise control is factory fitted. If it is, then a light will illuminate INSIDE THE RIGHT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, if it's just a led somewhere else, then it's not factory cruise. Good luck.

I would advise having Dazz with you if you're comfortable with that, the more eyes the better & he's a really nice guy, too. :goodjob2:

Love the way the diesels are holding their value  :happydance:

Show them this, might get the price down a bit....

http://www.carsales.com.au/demo/details/hyundai-i30-2011-14548019?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=0&eapi=2&__N=1246%201252%204294965579%204294852939%201216%20937&num=15&silo=Stock&sort=~Price\

Is there any better value than that?

New (well 150km) Auto MY11 diesel SX 19490, just a boat ride away....

Gotta love night work....

I'd prefer an SLX manual myself  :whistler:

Nice find though beerman  :goodjob:

Phil, Thanks for the compliment (made my day)  :happydance:

I would definitely be able to tell if it has had any major work (part re-spray, etc...)

Thanks for the replies guys,

Not long out of bed and back in tonight.

Whoops, forgot about good Friday, easy to tell I'm a shift worker in a 24/7 operation, (public holidays mean nothing to me) and I'm day shift Saturday Sunday. Bugger.

Might be a case of the one that got away as I think we're heading away for a couple of days Monday.

Cheers.

Was thinking to myself, these Tassie Boys are top performers & letting the world know, then i see shift worker. good on you m8.
hey that would be a good buy but my mate got a much better deal on a brand new FD with the improved U2 1.6 CRDi & the much improved 6 speed gear box. i've owned two i30 CRDi manuals & i'm telling you there is a big improvement with the U2 & 6 speed i would never go back the U2 has a smoother Torque delivery from 1,000rpm in all gears the 6 speed has more useable 5th gear & the bonus of a 6th gear for cruising. but the CRDi you show is a good car i'm sure just for  the extra my mate payed & what he gets ( u2 motor 6 speed GB & 5 year unlimited k warranty, its worth looking harder. just my 2 cents ( also you can take my advice as i'm not useing it myself LOL ) cheers m8

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Lakes, I work at a cement manufacturing plant and lets just say that the paintwork cops a pizzling from time to time plus the fact that I live on a bit of acerage with a couple of hundred meters of gravel driveway, my days of looking after a car meticuously are past me so I couldn't see myself spending much more at all although the new i30's are very nice and I understand where you are coming from about the extra gear as the Focus we have is a six speed and is just a fantastic little thing.  In fact I can't wait to compare the two as it is an amazing little car although I understand I wouldn't exactly be comparing apples with apples.

One thing I might ask, I'm 6'3" in the old scale.  How will I go fitting in these things?  I have driven a couple but only briefly and they felt alright but I'm wondering about over the longer distances.  I don't think it would be an issue but opinions anyone?

Cheers

Cheers,

We had one chap about your height who thought there wasn't enough seat travel but other members of similar height have been universally generous in their praise of the comfort and room in the i30.

I seem to recall that the CW (wagon) Driver's seat might not go back quite as far for some reason

the cw is about 3 notches shorter compared with the hatch when the seat is all the way back on the rails.  :winker:  Trev's the tallest here,he said he has no problem with the seat in his hatch.

I rest my left foot on the footrest, be it manual or auto....

Doesn't matter anyhow, I think we've established that there is slightly less legroom in the CW...  :whistler:
