Electric bikes are a common sight in cities from Berlin to Beijing, so why have they failed to catch on in the UK?

  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

I assume you mean the fat balding guy

I've done my sums and would take too long to recoup the cost (even at $400 -$500)

Plus the safety aspect (Lots of Cyclists get skittled down here)  :blubber:

in South China there was talk of fitting some form of noise on the electric bikes,as there are a lot of accidents because no one hears them coming, and of course they drive them anywhere

It is a shame there is a safety issue down here (and most other places too I suppose) with cycling...

When I was in the Bank (so nearly 20 years ago) I used to ride a pushbike to work (around 4kms, mostly down hill) quite often.

Being in my late 50's now and living 7kms from my work (with some medium hills to negotiate) i would not ride a conventional bike to work but an electric or other motorised bike is quite an appealing option to help me up the hills  :happydance:

But, there are blind corners on our semi-rural access road and some fairly ordinary drivers that use it  :sweating: (No I'm not one of them)  :P

Yes, you might get buzzed from above and pulled off (by the updraught).
