I've just been checking the Aftersales and Warranty book.

There is no mention within the "5 Year, unlimited mileage Warranty" or the "Routine Service Record" sections that the car has to be serviced within a certain time period or mileage from the normal service period, 12/24/36 etc months or 10/20/30,000 etc miles from registration date.

However, in the "Anti-perforation Maintenance Record" section it does say that the inspections must be carried out at 12, 36, 60 month intervals from the date of first registration of the vehicle.  The inspection must be carried out within 30 days either side of these dates in order to maintain this warranty.

Therefore, does this mean that most, if not all, Hy cars have invalid warranty's as I wouldn't expect each car to be serviced on its birthday or when the mileage is spot on 10/20/30,000 etc miles.

If you have a warranty claim just 1 day or 1 mile over the date or mileage does this make the warranty void? ( this would be an interesting High Court case!).

But so long as the Anti-perforation is checked within + or - 30 days at least the body work is covered!!

Does anyone have any views?

From Hyundai's FAQs section

I have missed one of my services. What happens now?

Hyundai allow 600 miles or one month either side of the expected service date. If the service is not carried out within this time then the vehicle's warranty may be affected.

I have always made sure I am within 1000km (approx 600 miles) either way of my service schedule and am confident from dealer feedback in the past that is considered as a realistic benchmark as far as warranty is concerned...

If this is a warranty condition then surely this should be stated in the book as that is the "Official" document supplied when the car is purchased.
As an owner you will read the book and as it's not in the book as a condition of warranty then it could leave HY open to challange.

Putting it on the web site, in my view, does negate their responsibliy to inform owners of this important warranty condition.

I have made warranty claims on a couple of Hyundais, and I have never had a problem as long as the vehicle is serviced regularly.

Eye i can understand what you are saying.
but when a car is serviced, they attach a service sticker somewhere that it is in plain view to the opperator or driver, the sticker will normally state when the next service is due, it will say the mileage next service is due at or by such & such a date, then it will say wich ever come's first. so in other words, if you don't even drive it you still need it service by this given date.
but you still have a point, just i doubt if you took it to a court of law, you would have a case as any judge would know it's general knowledge.

But with the Anti-Perforation you might have a point, i have never in 40+ years had a car go rusty on me personally ( don't ask me why?)
but i'll check through my warranty book, have Hyundai got a bad reputation for this?

Due to my supplying dealership going under during the week I was due in for 12,500m first service, I quickly had to find a service centre that would do an authorised service. Fortunately I located a dealership that was close to me who said I could get away with 500 miles over. So, I could have 13,000m on the clock after which warranty work would be questioned.

I believe you have hit it full on - it is not stated anywhere in the service book - it was told to you by the garage.

My point is - A condition of warranty so important should be stated in writting IN the service book NOT by word of mouth or expect you to go looking for it  i.e. find it by chance on the web site.

Not all owners converse with their service garage or have access to the internet.

One of my favourite sayings is.

'If you don't write it down, it never happened.'

This is very much true in this case, 'he told me this' will never work against something that is written down. (No matter how obscure)

You just have to do things by the book. Literally.

Daniel
