Hooked up this driving light bar as I think the high beam on the i30 is apalling. It's got 12 x 5W LED's on it and lights up pretty darn good although it is only spots not flood. Might still have to get a few single ones to point out the side but I'll make that decision after I do a bit of driving with it. Hopefully make spotting the roos, pigs, deer, etc. a bit easier on the road.

Not something I would fit to mine, but then again we don't have quite as many 'roos around Manchester :D

You've already got the 'off' pic :P

Let me rephrase that,

Any chance of an on / off pic from the drivers seat, at night on a quiet road.  :P

What's the del with these LED light bars?  Are they road legal or not?  I've done some research on them and am none the wiser.

Looking at the Halo Light Bars Website it says in their FAQ that they are "Off Road Use Only"  :undecided:

http://www.halolightbars.com.au/faq/

I found reference about having to cover a central portion of the bar so that it appears  to be two lights.  The obvious thing would be to fit two smaller bars, assuming this is a requirement.

It would be great if laws could adapt to new technology.

Wayne that looks cool, all ya need now is the cylon thing going , I am actually stunned at how some of the LED working/driving lights preform, not sure on the legality of them on a car or truck fr that fact, but I don't think you will have a problem,99.9% of all driving lights are advertised for OFF ROAD USE ONLY and look at the amount of them out there on the road, had an issue when I travelled through NSW,Johny Hopper pulled me up and said my lights were illegal, said I would have to removed them, well told him where he could shove that,as one it had been passed by MVL here in WA, second I would not be in his crappy state for more than a day so he wouldn't have to worry about it,I also had comments in Vic as well,at least their blokes were a little more diplomatic, plus I dropped my mates name a few times, thankfully one of them had served under him.

As Phil said would be good to get a couple of pictures, but I like it, mind you won't be chnging mine LOL

Sorry guys. Been busy all night and hadn't checked the forum. My camera is one of those underwater ones for my fishing. Takes great photo's underwater but crap night time pics. I'll see how I go tomorrow night. Had a bit to drink so can't drive right now :happydance:. As for the legalities of these the company I work for imports and sells heaps of these in most states in Aus. We had a brief window where we designed some stickers to cover up 1 or 2 lights in the middle but I think nothing came of the law changing. Don't quote me on that though as I am just the dumb warehouse guy, not a salesman.

Just the brightness of the white light increases your vision and makes a huge change. I need to lift mine up a bit as I noticed when pulling into the garage tonight and flicking them on that the spotlight actually sits just below the line between the high beams lights so I'll be doing that tomorrow and then hopefully take some pics.

I have access to all kinds of spotties through work but I chose this one because it is a lightweight one and it is after all only screwed to a plastic bumper :whistler: I also liked the slim line look of it. I could have chosen a 10W x 8 led bar but it was twice the weight and twice the height and subsequently twice the price, same length though.

Interesting. So you can't just have one spottie on the front, or 3 for that matter. Must be in pairs. Seems a bit silly to me but anyway I don't make the rules. So it appears my little light bar is legal in QLD until September this year :goodjob2:

I wonder why they made that rule when you have to turn them off anyway when another vehicle gets close, what does it matter if they see one light or two from 500m up the road? Sometimes I don't understand all the rules that are made up today  :head_butt:

Sorry about the photos there was a big storm here last night and I didn't feel like getting wet and they won't happen tonight as I am packing for my big drive in the morning.

So, from what I understand, a solution would be to fit two smaller bars or a pair of round or square clusters.

Wayne, where did you get the bar from that you have fitted?

My work imports and sells them. We had heard of this rumour a while back but I totally forgot about it. We even had some stickers made up to cover the two centre lights but then I never heard anything about it so thought that the need for the sticker had gone away.

yes some of the regulations are just stuffed, can't have one light.or three, over here you are not supposed to have them mounted above the centreline of the headlights.

But how mny utes do I see with four on the roo bar(two inset and two on top of the roobar)then there's the row of 4 to 6 on the roll over bar on the back above the roof, highly illegal, but very very rarely policed.

Oh! then there's the semi's that have that many small LED's on every square inch of the bullbars, down the side steps and up the sleeper cabs, which are never turned off with the high beams,I see one every second or third morning on the way to work, yes he dips his lights but I still have to slow to a crawl as the light coming off his truck is blinding, that never gets policed.

Oh! Yeah and it is illegal to drive with your low wattage fog lamps on.

Yes some odd regulations/laws out there

Hot off the press. New changes to driving light bar rules in Qld.  :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

Although I do drive to NSW to go fishing a bit but I'll have to restrain from using it when over the border.

Good news!  :goodjob:

I wonder how long it will take for the relevant changes to be made to the Australian Design Rules...

Pain in the bum in the meantime not being able to use them interstate....  :undecided:

I wonder why they excluded motorcycles & Trikes?  :undecided:

I can't understand why they have to be tied to the high beam.

Quote
The lamp/s must only come on when the main-beam (high beam) headlamps are used...

Any additional lighting needs to be tied to high beam so that when high beam is switched to low beam, all the extra lights go off too, to avoid blinding oncoming drivers.

Ahh, so they're not a replacement for DRLs then. That's what confused me (not difficult).

Oh! Rusty it was just so easy,  you left yourself wide open for that one  :snigger: :snigger:

Years ago had a couple of bikes with crash bars, had spotties on them two, you'll be surprised the amount of bikes I see over here with driving lights fitted, mind you they still can't find space for a front number plate  :goodjob2: :goodjob:

Geez, Rick....you've got me thinkin' now, we could fit both and when we ride past a speed camera we could flick the spotty on and blind the buggers...

Try getting a pic of my number plate now ya b*stards!
