Yes, Trevor very sad  I just discovered it while Trish and I were planning our Trip to view the event on Saturday

The news item says only the affected stage was abandoned.
The TV news suggests the event has been cancelled.
What are you hearing?

I haven't heard either but would be VERY surprised if the event was cancelled. This isn't the first death and it wont be the last (it is the nature of the beast)

Many millions have been spent by Octagon and the competitors in setting up the event/ transporting vehicles to Tassie Etc. Etc.

I am sure the driver who died wouldn't have wanted to see the event cancelled due to this tragic event.

So in short, I would bet money it wont be.

I agree Dazz. In fact, such a cancellation would probably be the death knell of that type of event.
I suspect the TV news had just misinterpreted the news of the stage cancellation. Yet again demonstrating the mainstream media's lack of knowledge of the complexities of these evnts.

As you say, very sad.
But it is one of the risks of motor sport.
By all means make sure that everything that can reasonably be done to ensure competitor/spectator safety is done, but at the end of the day it is a sport and many people are killed in all sorts of activities.
As you say Dazz, the driver himself most likely wouldn't have wanted the event cancelled.

They only cancelled the stage the accident happened on.

They have released the driver's name John Mansell born in Launceston lived and worked in Sydney..

This is not good but I strongly suspect that not everybody who wants to drive in such an event really should. Even Peter Brock, a legend of motorsport, came unstuck on a road event. Not to mention these guys: http://www.vask.org.nz/index.php?topic=26670.0
