I expect many members have looked at changing their current bulbs from filament, to Led's. I have searched the Internet too and nothing out there satisfies my requirements. Most configurations are old technology and their output can not be relied on to satisfy road regulations.

I have on order, some Led's that will do the job.  The secret to success is the fact that the brake lights use a parabolic focus in the reflector, to simulate many individual lights, when in fact, there is only one.

It will be a work in progress and I have other exciting commitments that will take me out of the state, but I'm determined to create these lights. I believe the reduced current draw will also solve the brake switch failure as well.

Perceived problems are,

- Cruise control won't disengage on application of brakes.

I hope this doesn't happen.

Assuming a successful outcome I will post instructions & photos.

Please be patient.

Phil doubt whether the CC will be a problem I'm pretty sure that works through the brake switch not the lights

Please disclose all :)

Hemmi was one of a few members who I think did this. I believe yosoypepo was another.

@Rick,

The CC senses the load of the brake lights, with LED's the load may not be sensed because the current draw is so low, therefore, the CC may not disconnect. I'm hoping the cumulative effect of 4 lights will be enough to trigger the CC.

I recall someone fitting aftermarket Korean LED tail light assemblies.  The assembly contained a circuit to counter the lesser current draw.

More than likely a resistor, which defeats the whole purpose of making the change.

If the led's can be incorporated successfully, imagine leaving your parking lights on all night with NO ill effects on the battery at all.

Good luck, Phil, a very worthy enterprise indeed. If the current draw reduction does become a problem, do tell and we'll blow the dust off Norton's Law and find a happy solution. :goodjob:

Waiting for 1 final component to arrive through the post, it's in Oz, so hopefully next week  :fingers: it goes according to plan.
