Next you'll be selling Persian rugs at the weekly closing down sales!
Funny you should say that.
When I was first promoted to a State role in Goodyear my national manager (Marketing) was a guy who had come to us from Solomon's Carpets and he had been responsible for all those "in your face" Solomon's ads on TV (early 80's??).
I have no idea whose bright idea it was to pick a carpet salesman to sell tyres, but he was in fact pretty good.
Lebanese guy, lived in Sydney. He took me (and my other State counterparts) to dinner in a Lebanese restaurant just off Cleveland St in Surry Hills one time. Great food and my first introduction to it (about 1987), but there was a set of steps up the side of the seating area to a floor above and people kept coming in the front door and up the stairs.
I asked him what was up there.
"You don't want to know", was his answer.
Footnote. Many years later when we lived in Sydney I was sitting stopped in traffic on Cleveland St, looked to my left and found myself looking down a lane and straight into the same restaurant. Up till that point if my life depended on it I couldn't have told you what street or even what suburb we had been in.
