No surprise, really. Power and torque are nice, but not everything.  ;)

Despite the lack of cargo net, the Cruze's bigger load capacity - 686 litres compared with 528 litres - is an advantage. But there's no difference in capacity with the optional spare wheel fitted, which makes Holden's decision not to fit it disappointing.

This is only with the rear seats up, with them down the i30 kicks arse....1642 litres of cargo space v 1478 for the Cruze.... :goodjob:

It's worth mentioning that the Cruze is a Daewoo. Arrives in bits to OZ, hence they still only claim to be "built" by Holden. Looks fancy, has a huge Holden badge that fools a lot of people into thinking that it is a genuine Holden. So no real surprise that it still is a P.O.S.

Priceless moments aplenty when people get told about the true name of that box of manure...

Actually, the Cruze Wagon is fully imported....  :whistler:

But, is the Holden Cruze actually that bad or is just a case of people thinking it must be cos' it's sourced from Korea?  :undecided:

the Holden Astra and viva were both re badged daewoo's,and both need to have the head re built when the timing belt is changed.    :fum:  a Friend of Sue's [the good wife] had a viva with the timing belt due for changing and was quoted by a dandenong Holden dealer $4,200 for the belt and reconditioning of the head including labour,at 90,000kms for an engine needing the head recoing, that's a joke. IMO.  :disapp:  hence the car was traded in on a new one not long after here enormous timing belt quote, but not on a Holden daewoo.  :snigger:

I'm sure we could rake up just as many horror stories with Hyundai, Steve....  :whistler:
But, even if the Viva was a pos, does that make the Cruze a pos too?
The Barina is sourced from Korea too, is that also a pos?  :undecided:

Btw, Daewoo is actually GM-Korea these days....

Oh, and Astra was never sourced from Korea, as far as I know....  :whistler:

Rusty is correct, the Astras were all Opel. Which (the brand) just popped up under it's own name here.

Same make as Vauxhall that the Top Gear crew hate with a passion, for all the right reasons, i.e. POS.

The common thing is the GM umbrella.

OK, so I had a quick look at the Cruze before ordering my new i30.

I thought the interior was nice, and the cargo area was good.  It also had more power/torque.  Problem was that the Holden dealership reckoned they couldn't sell me a manual one.

The Cruze didn't have as good fuel economy as the i30.  Also, the Hyundai dealer offered me a VERY good deal to sell the car, whereas Holden seemed uninterested in the sale.

Bottom line, I thought the i30, for the price, represented a better overall package than the Cruze. I have owned several new and second hand Holdens, so this is a big change for me.

You made a good choice. A Cruze is just a Daewoo with a different name badge. It seems one of the weakest areas of the car is the AC condenser. $1k+ to repair and NOT a warranty fix.  :fum: :fum: :fum:

With the current disgruntled Holden workforce, I doubt quality will be very good either.

Should have no effect, Phil....the Cruze Wagon is fully imported.

Here in sweden the Cruze is sold by Chevrolet... A friend of mine had a cruze 2.0 diesel -10 and when I looked at the engine it was basically the same engine as Hyundai 2.0 CRDI (Santa Fe, Tucson, Elantra, Trajet)

When i looked it up on wiki both engines came from VM Motori and were named RA 420 SOHC.

VM Motori is an Italian company

I thought Hyundai made their own engines, but it seems it's an Italian made. Not happy with that  :disapp:

U-diesel engine 1,5/1,6/1,7 is Hyundais own engine and is from no third party or so. Those engines is so much better also!! The same goes with the new R-diesels too, all Hyundai.
