Yep Adelaide and Hobart are the two driest Australian capital cities.  Sydney has twice as much rain as Melbourne.  Hobart has the most rainy days (yet it is the second driest, there are not many thunderstorms for the large downpours).

One of my memories of visiting Adelaide a few years back when staying at a friends house for a couple of days was the noise on his corrugated tin roof in a violent thunderstorm.  I got little sleep that night.

Thunderstorms are great, but invariably, they pass around us. 

In a dry year, we can go througt to May / June, before any appreciable rain arrives. It's been a good season this year, rains have started and I can't mow the lawns.
