Hi,

New to this forum. I did a search and while there are a few references to handbrake adjustment I cant see a specific reference as to how it is done. Anyone have an explanation or a link as to how its done?
There have been references to adjusting at the wheels and also to adjusting under the console between the seats.
Any definitive answers welcomed as my handbrake is very near its limit at the top of its travel and would like to adjust before it wont hold anymore.

Do you have a centre armrest?

In my 2008 model, under the mat inside the centre armrest, I can access a ratcheted link to adjust mine.

Just out of interest, anyone care to post a picture of how and where one adjusts this.

Is this an easy thing to adjust if one notices that the handbrake is needing to be really yanked to keep the car stationary on a steep hill? Or best left to experts?

Just to clarify, adjusting the handbrake will not make it any more effective - it won't hold any better. It will just reduce the number of clicks to fully engage it. Assuming of course you are not right at the end of its travel already.

Forgive my ignorance, say I am finding that the handbrake is not holding the car well on a slope, how is this adjusted at the dealer? Is it with the handle or something physically at the rear brakes.

I was inclined to be flippant and just answer "yes" but the answer is obvious. If the brake is ineffective you would need to find and correct the cause. There is more to it than a handle pulling a cable.

My handbrake is perfectly capable of holding on a steep slope but my wife may not find it so easy to get the last click needed. The brake is not defective even so.

Could be that the pads have worn down so the handbrake has to travel further,

Not having investigated how the handbrake works on the I30,can't help,I just let Hy do the job,after reading eye30's comment does the hanbrake on the I30 work totally different to all other four wheel disk braked cars I have had before,does the handbrake work off the main braking disc's,just wondering

I may be wrong but I have it in my mind that the rear wheels also have a little hub brake assembly as well as the disks, purely for the handbrake mechanism.

I think that is on the fd and when the car was on an incline and the handbrake applied the car would "rock" slightly but i 've not experienced the same in the gd.

Just had a quick squiz. The handbrake cable doesn't go anywhere near the caliper (incidentally that's how it worked on the old Renault 8s and 10s), so I'm pretty sure it's separate mechanism inside the rotor hub.

Yes this is how I have found all our other four wheel disked braked cars were,the inside of the rotor hub had a small shoe brake system in them,Geez must be tiny in these little guys
