 Hyundai Motor Company, the fastest-growing automaker by brand, announced that it will provide 800 units of Santa Fe-based police cars to the Peruvian government by November this year. The project, which was initiated by the Peruvian Government’s request, will strengthen Hyundai Motor’s brand image in the rapidly-growing Peruvian market.

Based on Hyundai Motor’s Santa Fe 2.4 gasoline model, the Santa Fe police car was specially modified to successfully carry out its duties.

I like this bit:
Aside from the basic features of a police car, such as bullet proof windows,

light bars and searchlights, the car is also equipped with various smart features such as an in-vehicle laptop, fingerprint verification system and an advanced communication system, which enables real-time data exchange with the central control center.

I hosted Chile's military leadership as interpreter for a Pacific forum in Sydney and our conversations certainly changed my view of Chile. They are clearly the lead nation for Australia's engagement with South America. Such metrics for this determination include mutual economic and regional interests, economic and political capacity to contribute to international activity and an alignment of social values. As you might expect, we talked a bit about Peru as well.

While I was in England last month I spotted a fully kitted out i30 police vehicle. Looked like a highway patrol car, but I doubt that it was. My lack of a ready-to-hand camera at the time frustrated me somewhat.

I got quite a shock when I googled Chile .. It only seemed like a few years ago they were battling with massive inflation and a rapidly depreciating currency.
