Hi Tom

Try a search using "blanking plate" - there are a few threads mentioning it. One in particular links to our Spanish cousins' forum where they've posted photos :)

Yep, working upwards, gently tugging left and right.

I've had mine out a few times (3, I think). It's tricky, but you need to have confidence that nothing's going to break.

If your talking the whole facia plate around the stereo someone put one up just recently(when we were talking stereos and temp gauges),I took one of mine off last weekend, once I had the upper glove box,or sunglass box what ever you want to call it and took the one central screw out,it was a simple matter of putting my fingers in the hole one side and once the facia started moving, the clips let go and it came out quite easily

No top drawer on my dash, just a blanking plate filling the gap, then the controls for a/c, not climate control

Let me know if you want the Spanish translated properly. If so, post the link and I'll do it - wouldn't be the first time.

Well, I leave a pretty complete guide for those of you without the top glovebox in the i30:it's quite easy to do, we mounted it in Gerlogar's car it was done in 40 minutes.

The first thing we should do is pull the faceplate from the bottom, yes, more technique than strength, once it's loose from the bottom, we pull from the top until it's all off, then we remove the warning connectors, seatbelt warnings and climate control; in this case whoever has air con will be the same.

Image

Then once the faceplate is removed, turn it over and behind we see screws which we remove and remove the cover.
ImageImageImage

Once the cover is removed, we do the trimming, those marked in red,and the orange line is where we should cut, then turn the faceplate over and also make the cuts in orange.
ImageImage
Image
Image

Now we'll see 3 heads where 3 screws held the lid, we cut them so that the glovebox goes in and we try the same to see whether it goes in too forcefully or doesn't at all, look to see if you have cut enough for the trimming indicated above.

Once we see that it fits, we mount first the faceplate and lastly the glovebox with 4 screws.

At first the top part will rub when opening but as soon as you fit the glovebox screws it shouldn't. If there's any doubt, I hope this will help.

That's the translation. I did remove the lower panel with the lighter sockets in order to wire my GPS to their supply. I can't say that the other panels are the same but it did take a bit of wiggle and courage.
