This is my latest addition - a 1969 Jaguar XJ6 Series 1, factory manual with o/d.
She needs a bit of TLC in & out but very straight for a 44 year old car, no rust having been in a warm climate.

max, a  bloke at work has an old jag, dunno what model but looks the same, just updated like its late 70's. it has a mildly worked 400 chev in it, and it goes effing hard!

They're nice old girls.
The series 1 was the last car to be designed by Jaguar's founder, Sir William Lyons, and he said it was his greatest achievement.
They have the real wood, real leather, chrome instrument surrounds, etc whereas the later ones have plastic.
The air con is a retro fit from another Jag.

Fabulous.
Memories flood back, the first one I saw was in 1969 coloured Pea Green, foolishly thought that there couldn't be enough money in the world to buy a car like that !
Would see Booby Moore each morning, driving his bright red XJ6 in 1969, from Barking Essex to West Ham United football ground, and also arriving to play cricket for Essex in 1970
Tried so many other cars, waited 25 years, but could not  forget those images, finally gave in and bought a new Ice Blue XJ6 in '96.

I think it's fourteen or fifteen or thereabouts now.
I want to move to a large flat block with bigger sheds but might have to wait a while.
Not sure how to tackle this car. I'd like to keep as many of its original features as I can, in other words, restore the interior leather etc rather than re-trim, to retain the patina.
The body will need to be refurbished though.

Great memories. You should post pics of your car. 
I remember coming home from school in Birmingham in the dark and seeing these Series 1 Jags in the show rooms.
I never forgot them either.
As for colours, I'm thinking maybe the cars you saw were Willow Green and Regency Red.

Ok when I get my hands on the Wife's camera...
Trouble with Jags in the UK; new very costly, after a few years, virtually worthless, when I bought this one I told the Sales guy I would probably only use it long haul, (petrol consumption isn't too bad - no good in town), he actually told me "cheaper to rent one - as and when needed, you'll take a big hit otherwise".

A business colleague once told me, a lot of purchasers end up bankrupt. I asked him why, and he told me that the owners worked harder on their image than doing any work to pay for it

I know what you mean about the depreciation - it was the same over here too.
The new ones (XF & XJ) seem to be holding up pretty well though.
