We had the old introductory message before some ads during the news... Helicopter crashes into pub in Scotland, details after the break... my heart did miss a beat

 sometimes I wonder how small people think Scotland is, it takes me 2+ hours to drive to Glasgow, currently 10 minutes to drive to Fatboy!   :snigger:

Yeah, bit the same with Tassie, if we have fires or floods the media gives people the impression the whole island is flooded or on fire..

I don't reckon I would have been the only fatboy fan to do a double take when Helicopter and Scotland were mentioned at the same time.

Now now, Brian.
Come on down here and I'll take you on a drive from Brisbane to Darwin. Only 36+ hours.  :p

But I'm like Dazz. Helicopter crash + Scotland on the news headlines.
First thought is Fatboy.
But then they mentioned it was a police chopper.
My thoughts are with everyone involved.

Thanks for your thoughts, everybody.  A very sad event for all concerned.

I was in a pub last night, but not in Glasgow, and not in a helicopter.

Three confirmed deaths so far.  32 casualties as well.  Apparently the emergency services have moved from Rescue to Recovery.  Not good.

I'm guessing the three dead are the two police and the civilian pilot that were in the Chopper?

In today's paper it said the chopper base is just down the road from the pub.

And eye witnes is quoted as saying there was a wierd noise then a "dropping" noise and chopper possibly in trouble from take off.

From the photos that I have seen there is not much blade damage, which to me indicates that the rotors were either stopped or not tuning very fast when the helicopter hit the pub.  I am sure that it will all come out in the Accident Investigation.

Bugger, I have just become an armchair crash investigator, I dislike those type of people.

It appears that the initial report from the Air Accident Investigations Branch confirmed what I first thought.  The blades were not turning when the helicopter hit the pub.  It appears it did just "fall from the sky" with a high rate of descent and little or no forward speed.

BBC News - Clutha helicopter crash: AAIB finds 'no evidence' of mechanical fault

Unfortunately this creates more questions than it answers for me.  What stopped them?  How long were they stopped for?

Bugger!!!   :blubber:
