The owners of New York's Empire State Building have sued a photographer who shot images of a topless woman on the skyscraper's observation deck.

They say Allen Henson's actions in August were "inappropriate" at a family tourist attraction and that he lacked permission to hold a photoshoot there.

The owners seek $1.1m (£670,000) in damages.

There is a law in New York that permits women to be topless anywhere that men are permitted to be topless.

The Yanks are a little naïve about topless girls. I recollect a few years ago on a Med cruise, we were in Cannes and did a little bus tour around the area, mostly Yanks on board. We stopped at a beach for a drink, plenty of white pointers about, the old American guys could not stop perving at them.   Suffice to say their spouses were not impressed 'Goddam Wlibur, will you stop lookin at them there prostitutes  , Lordy, have mercy on their souls.'     

You rarely see topless girls on beaches in the USA, it is an offence.  Not in Australia though.
