Nearly two-thirds of those polled felt that speakers of the Queen’s English gave the impression of being intelligent and half said they sounded like they could be trusted.

By contrast, Liverpudlians were judged to be the least intelligent, least friendly and least trustworthy based on the way they spoke.

A quarter of Britons reported that the Scouse accent sounded unfriendly and more than a third said that it came across as stupid. Only a quarter trusted it.

Other regional accents fared little better: 33 per cent of those questioned said people from Birmingham sounded unintelligent, followed by Cockneys (32 per cent), Geordies (26 per cent) and Mancunians (22 per cent).

Speak the Queen's English if you want to sound intelligent and be trusted -

Whilst that is a funny response it is actually closer to the truth than you might think!

For many years it has been claimed that the best Queens English is actually spoken by the Invernesians, mainly due to the fact that when Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated at Culloden in 1746, it left the Duke of Cumberlands English troops stationed in the area and they discovered bonnie Scots girls to procreate with, thus creating the soft Inverness dialect.

I have always believed the Scots speak English better than the English - more precise and with fewer 'exceptions' to rules. :victory:

I do agree with the Scouse accent - it belies an air of thievery, distrust and premature motherhood.

In fact, all three of those 'traits' were demonstrated by Jimmy Carr in this short Graham Norton sketch

Well i think i have to defend my fellow scousers.

If you go into liverpool on any friday or saturday night you will meet the most friendly bunch of people you will ever find.

You will be kissed to death by both sexes

In my local if a stranger walks in they are made welcome and someone will strike up a conversation even if it is only Hello.

In a recent review of telephone voices the liverpudlian accent came top for the best for clearness, precise pronouciation, friendly chat etc.
This area is well know for the large number of call centres due to the operators telephone manner being voted number 1 in the uk.

All i can say is i've travelled north, south, east and west of the uk and the odd balls of liverpool will strike up a conversation, whereas in other areas they are wary of speaking to an outsider.

Ps jimmy carr is a prat with a capital p.

He has just jumped on the scouser bandwagon to try and get cheap larfs

I must admit when travelling the UK, the pubs were always friendly. Cold weather, log fire, ox tail soup, a pint or 2, with scampi.  :happydance:

Lunch a Tesco's burger.  :undecided:

Just kidding.

The only English accent I like listening to is the one Prince Charles has. It sounds like he is slightly drunk, with the olives from the martini in his mouth. It's the perfect example of old toffey poms, IMO, and one I like to mimic.

This is how the Liverpudlians get their rep though, the scouser is the seller, look at the price for a cardboard box!!

The bidders are stupid cos they haven't read the description.

Absolutely - having worked all over the UK - including living at Sullom Voe in the Shetland Isles, (Wife's relatives live there).
However, Abby Clancy's accent is acceptable :whistler:

:goodjob2: Absolutely not! Some might say the program is contrived.

But it does give a clear impression of the accent to which the Thread alludes I think.
