So I was getting two tyres today and tyre guy asks "are these the factory alloys?" It's a SR with the factory alloys, so answer "yep". He then says that it looks like the wheel nuts aren't seating in the alloy wheel properly. I had a look and he has a point, it looks like they are meant to have a slight seat, to meet the flat seat part machined into the wheel stud hole.

Long story short, are cars equipped with the 17's meant to have a different wheel nut? I can't think of any reason why this car has different ones from what it left the factory with so I think it's just the tyre guy being overly cautious.

(and is there an online aka freebie workshop/part number manual floating around on the web?

Not sure how to answer this one 1 are you positive he are factory fitted wheels 2 after asking the first question, did you buy the car brand new,as I could not see why Hyundai would put the incorrect lug nuts on if the wheels are original.

I was under the understanding none of the Hyundai's came out with  17's stock, but some of the SR owners would have a better answer.I have put after market 17's on one of mine, they are not self centering and you have to be extremely careful how you replace any of the wheels,if this is what has happened in your case,I would be questioning or looking to see if the wheels are actually in fact suited for your car, just a thought,I know it doesn't answer your question

I'm not at home to look at the car at the moment, but it definitely came with factory 17's. They are a different style of wheel to the factory 17's on the Premium.

I had a look around and it has the same wheels that every other SR I've seen has: http://www.melbournescheapestcars.com.au/stock/images/106416_6.jpg

Yeah I don't know why it would have been fitted with anything /but/ the proper wheel nuts.

Some of the Poms ( I mean valued UK members) had those same wheels on their FD's . Including Shambles on his current car and Keith and Alan Ho on their now traded ones. So one of them should know!

Although I had the wheels off on my FD a couple of times - I didn't notice any problem with the wheel nuts. Having said that - if the problem is a subtle discrepancy-  perhaps I just didn't notice.

Be aware that Wheel bolts come in two different types.

1 where the seat is flat and 1 where the seat is convex.

The seat in the alloy off course must be same type as the bolts.

... and you'd be nuts to use the wrong type

I can see that you are worried, and I would be happy to swap an original set of 15" wheels for them......'Cos that's the nice guy that I am.....

Any form of I30 wheels are getting hard to find. Would love to put some SR wheels on the Wife's car.

Mine only has a 15 months before the lease is over, and I have a set of original wheels for that (they cost me $107.50 with the trims! I love Ebay!!)

Given these wheels were taken off the car to put mags on it, and the tyres were still new, I think I did ok....

Certainly better than the $400 odd that I would have had to spend anyway.....

I wandered around a few other FD's and they all have the same wheel nuts.

I think the tyre guy was just being a bit cautious.

I've only seen one other FD SR on the road so yes, those wheels are a bit thin on the ground.

Many of us reckon they would have sold more SRs if they had been available over here with the diesel.

In the UK the Diesel was available with leather and those 17" wheels.

Just a heads up, the FD Sportswagon also scored the SR wheels...  :)
