Need advice about clearing a scuff mark

I need some advice as to what I can buy to remove a heavy scuff mark on my drivers door.

Late last Friday night I was almost home when a carfull of scrotes coming towards me threw a tub of something which hit my door and burst. I got home and found creamy goo all around the drivers door and passenger door, which I quickly cleaned off.

However, in the light of day, there is a circular mark on the drivers door where the tub struck, and it's left a touchy-feely scuff mark. I did take a picture but the SupaGard coating acts like a mirror, and you can't see it too well.

So, what's the least abrasive cleaning solution I can buy so as not to ruin my paintwork? I already have spare SupaGard cream to apply when it's all done.

Edit: I red it to fast, I thought there was some dirt you couldn't remove

Have you tried just good old car shampoo and water.

As I have a mica finish I find that by just giving it that little bit extra firm rub it takes off any marks.

I don't think rubbing/washing will help. I just went outside again and the more I feel it, the more it feels like the projectile has cut through the SupaGard and into the paint itself.

Gonna give that meguiars a go. I located a dealer not too far from here so I'll pop in and get some tomorrow maybe.

Its not harsh at all, the abrasives are the same as using very fine grade 3m, which is what a body shop uses in soap solution when you have your back turned, you need the abrasives (which will also be in the Meguiars products) to "spread" the good paint into the scuff and even out the scuff.

Thanks for the explanation. I caught a youtube vid of the meguiars and was impressed. I've no doubt the autoglym is good too, but the way I see it is I can get the autoglym for £4.99/325ml whereas the meguiars is £8.99/250ml, so the "thomas" in me will try the dearer one first

Now that you've dealt with the scuff mark, we should start a new thread on what you could use on the lowlifes who threw the stuff at the car, if you ever caught up with them again!!!

My recommendation is Smith & Wesson - they do a good line in scum removal products!!

Shambles, what Brian say's is true, also years ago i used T Cut polish and it always worked great, i think Meguiars make good pruducts, but they market there products more so you pay for the marketing. but you feel good your giving Fergie the very best.

Scary stuff (parallel lives) I got a crack in my sceen then you got one..

You got a scuff on your door and I did too...

Think a trolley boy taking a heap of trolleys back into our local supermarket just scuffed my front passenger side door (also a week or so ago) Has left a white mark on the door about an inch round.

Fortunately no dent just scuffed the clear coat i think.. Will try some light polishing when I get a chance.

Had a worse incident tonight on way home see separate thread...

I have always used autoglyms stuff, but have heard really good things about Meguiares too, either should do the job well. Dont be afraid of the abbrasive ingredients in either product. The only way to remove, or diguise a scratch in your paint is to mildly cut back the layers of paint. Fortunatley, on a new car the duco is pretty thick.

Here are before and after shots of my scuff mark it was about an inch in diameter ..

It was easily polished out with an old product I had in the shed called "shine on" a non-abrasive polish that I don't think you can get any more...

Seems a good price for a full door respray.

Will this be done at home out in th open?

I've seen this company out and about and I think they have a canopy which they roll out from the back or side of the van to cover the car they are working on.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh I bet alot cheaper than taking it to the dealers or body shop and you can "supervise" as the job get done.

Did he mange to put each paint fleck back in its right place

Long ago here in Africa, those fancy products was not available in the shop, we used 'Brasso' metal polish to rub out any scuff mark or scratch on our car. It worked wonder and till today a lot still uses it although u can now get the proper compound in the shop.

My "scuff" turned out to be much more serious, with paint missing down to the metal, which is why it turned into a respray job.

We got brasso here too but I wouldn't consider using on bodywork
