Hey guys.

We all know the front strip on the front of the car is a silver:

I have a black SLX, and want to make this silver strip a matte balck colour. Anyone have any painting experience on this part? I have seen some Korean pics with this strip black, and it looks good.

But I don't I don't want it chip or anything with all the highway driving I do. Ideas?

Sand it with 800 grit wet and dry sand paper, then paint with primer first, then the black.

There is special primer available from auto shops especially for plastic trim... (I would suggest a clear coat over the black as well)

Yeah definitely go for the clear over the top of the black, but only if its a gloss black.  I didnt suggest it in case you are going to use matte black, in which case do not use clear over the top!

I've done similar to my motorbike (which also happens to be Korean by the way!).

I did not sand it at all, as I wanted the option of removing the paint to go back to chrome if I wanted to. I cleaned it really well with wax and tar remover, and primed it with etch primer, then went ahead with the top coat. 2 years later and it still looks great!
