Does anybody know what this piece of trim on the roof is called and where to buy some new ones? The Western Australian sun seems to have destroyed mine.

:wttc: They would just be called a cover strip. We live in Tassie and the sun can still be harsh down here, but my wife's CW cover stips are still like new after 3 years and 3 months,

If they went like that I would just mask it up and give it a light sand and spray them!

:welcum: cwdude, boy I have never seen that type sun damage before, like dazz both mine are three years old now and mine like Dazz's are like new,But I love Phil's idea at vynal wrapping them in a carbon fiber effect, not sure about the CW's but the hatches just slide out with a bit of effort,I'm assuming you'd have to remove the racks first then slide em out

I've got about 10 months to run on my 5 year warranty but my local Hyundai dealer decided that these cover strips count as paintwork and are therefore only covered by the 3 year section of the warranty. I've tried all combinations of grovelling, threats and weeping but they won't budge.

The strips seem to have some sort of black tape on them which seems to have gone very brittle and cracked. I don't have a garage or car port so it's getting mega watts of solar energy on it all year round.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll have a think about it...

Oh, ok, must be the same vinyl they used on the early Elantra B pillar (that often peeled and cracked too) Might not accept paint unless completely stripped.

I think if it is vinyl then the dealer's argument is shot down in flames.. Contact Hyundai direct and say your panel beater mate  :winker: says it is vinyl not paint and you want something done or you will take it further..

I think I'm going to go for removing the strips, covering them in black vinyl and then reinstalling them. I just don't have the heart for any more arguments with the dealer. I just want my car to look right. I know it's not super flash or anything but I'm emotionally attached to it.

Is this a DIY job with the vinyl wrap? I'd love to know what the process is.

There are heaps of Videos of how to do it on youtube. This one has annoying music at the beginning but is pretty good otherwise...

Member Glacius vinyl wrapped his whole car, so, I presume it is.

Personally, I think the vinyl look will look better than the original look. Will be a bit labour intensive, getting the bubbles and creases out and getting it set right before it dries. Good luck :goodjob2:

I don't think it's that hard actually, I've ordered some as a first and only modification, (if the boss lets me).

Do you just pry them up? or slide them forward/backwards?? I want to remove mine but was unsure if it was possible...

Reviving an old topic - but glad to see I am not the only one.   Mine are doing the same thing.

Thanks for the info on how to take care of it.

Not sure about the wagon, but on the hatch you remove the roof rack hole covers and then pop the rails straight up!
