Marcos Ambrose is all over the news for punching Casey Mears after a tough race at Richmond in the Nascar. It will certainly lift his profile in the sport (the Yanks appear to love that stuff)
Here is the punch in slo-mo.Casey Mears shoved him first and appears pretty cool about the whole thing...
“(My eye) is OK,” Mears said. “He got me good, though. Out of all the NASCAR fights or punches or when you see people swinging, usually it’s a lot of fly-swatting. He actually connected so that was pretty good.”
Mears indicated that there were several things that happened between the two drivers during the event. Ambrose finished 18th, Mears 19th.
“Some things happened out on the track that we weren’t real happy with, I guess both of us weren’t right?” Mears told NASCAR’s website. “We were talking and it turned into not talking at the end.
“Things happen. He got me pretty good with that shot. Everybody gets mad after those races when everybody is trying so hard. It’s a passionate sport, obviously. It’s tough when you first get out of the car, when you don’t have a good chance to cool off, it escalates pretty quick.”
So what happens next? NASCAR will determine any penalties and likely announce them Tuesday. In the meantime, be prepared to watch these two on the track in future events.
“I don’t think it’s something you just forget,” Mears said. “That’s kind of where it sits.”
It has rekindled memories of a clash between Greg Murphy and Ambrose during a Bathurst Race (V8 supercars) where they nearly came to blows ... If you want to know more just google (lots out there)
I'm a big fan of Marcos and this hasn't affected my opinion one way or the other but seems to have bought him a whole lot of new fans!
