A DRUNK, disqualified motorcyclist has been arrested after police spotted him riding an unregistered motorbike in the dark in Sydney's southwest with his lights off and a two-year-old boy tucked under his arm.
Police initially thought the 27-year-old Busby man was carrying a bag when they saw him at about 10pm on Sunday riding an unregistered motorcycle, without a helmet and with no lights.
The man tried to evade police by first riding on a footpath on St Johns Rd at Heckenberg before dropping his motorcycle and attempting to flee on foot with the child, believed to be his son.
He was arrested in a nearby street. The boy was placed in the care of his mother.
Assistant Police Commissioner John Hartley described the incident as one of of "the strangest and most dangerous acts of driving and endangering a child's life" he had encountered.
"It's unbelievable to put a two-year-old's life in jeopardy this way," he said, according to News Corp Australia.
The man failed a roadside breath-test and may face various charges including ride while disqualified, riding in a manner dangerous, riding an unregistered vehicle and hinder police.
