 Two million tons of tomatoes are used each year by Heinz to make ketchup, but what happens to the peel, stems and seeds? Well, they could soon be used in car production.

Yes, tomatoes and cars are unlikely bedfellows, but researchers from Ford and Heinz are examining how the fruit's fibres could be used to create a sustainable plastic material for use within cars.

It is believed that dried tomato skins could be used to make wiring brackets, coin storage tray and other smaller objects.

Wow! That is a bit of a role reversal for Ford ... Some of their cars have been the recipients of Rotten Tomato awards before...

Gee next they will be making cars out of lemons instead of vice versa... :whistler:
