Call me old fashion but I have just ordered a genuine leather chamois from New Zealand 3.5 sqft for $14.34 plus $6 postage, I reckon that is pretty good. I have never liked the synthetic ones although a lot of people seem to get on with them alright. Anyhow if any one is interested I will let you know when I receive it if it is any good. The company is The Original Chamois Company . Yes I know not very exciting but makes cleaning the car easier. :)

Chamois' are the bees' knees! I don't think we get the genuine ones here, but I do have a synthetic one that I use, and they cost about ZAR40 (4AUD) so the cost to replace when it eventually dies is cheap  :goodjob2:

I'd be keen to know how the real deal performs so keep us posted :)

I did try a synthetic one but went back to the real leather but after 10 years of use it finally kicked the bucket. It performed very well and seemed to soak up the water better, the only thing is if you let them dry out they go as stiff as a board until soaked again but putting them in a sealed plastic lunch bag keeps them moist. A lot of the Chinese ones although cheaper are not genuine sheep leather and don't last as long. :)

I have given up on buying so called chamois leathers and now use a synthetic one recommended to me by a relative who managed a car finishing and detailing business.

I can thoroughly recommend the Vileda Flunky Synthetic Chamois.

Thank's Alan will certainly keep that one in mind. All the other synthetic ones I have tried have been very thin and did not last long , at least that one has a 1 year guarantee. :goodjob2:

The problem in Australia is can you dry it off quick enough before it drys naturally and leaves all the water marks. :D

Yes I get mine from NZ,I get the Fawn skin Chamois,I find they are softer and finer than anything made from older hides, only issue with them is they do not last that long, can't remember what I paid for my last ones, one of which I have put in a very safe place, that f_*#ing safe I can't remember were it is.

They look very close to what I chamois the Saints off with while they are still in the Hydro bath,I personally didn't like them for the car,but they do soak up a heck pf a lot of water.

I prefer the Meguiars synthetic chamois myself, I bought one of the original leather ones last month that come in the red cylinder and they have changed the type of leather now so it's absoloutely horrible to use, sticks to the paint and wont glide nicely " it's in the bin now :( "

for many years chammys were the in thing to drying cars. The mf came out into the detailing world and out went the chammys. The reason is that although chammys wipe up the water , they also hold the dirt , which cause scratches and swirls marks. The in thing these days is waffle mf cloths (the big ones) which can wipe a car dry without wringing it out. Just a side note...I have a original shammy that came in its yellow circular container with a flat bottom for over thirty yrs and its still works great. Secret is to wash it every now and then, and keep it moist....don't let it dry out........ Now I use the waffle mf which are great....have about four of them....

When you call me Mr Donut, etc, are you referring to my shape, or to my ability to carry six donuts and two cups of coffee at the nudist beach?  :)

They must be small donuts.

Sorry mate, but even you would have to admit that getting your body to it's current condition would be impossible if you had a small mouth....  :D

The problem right now in the driest capital on the driest continent is the rain making washing impractical!
