Dramatic footage has emerged of two planes nearly colliding with each other on a Spanish runway.

The clip shows a Boeing 767-300  coming into land as an Airbus A340-300 taxis across its path at Barcelona El-Prat airport on Saturday morning.

The pilot of the incoming jet was forced to abort the landing and undertake an emergency go-around procedure in order to avoid the plane on the ground.

The footage has been viewed more than two million times since it was posted on YouTube by local plane-spotter Miguel Angel on Sunday.

Holy crapballs. Very well handled by the pilots, not so much by ATC!

Quote
Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA), the public body responsible for airports in Spain, said there was never any danger of a crash as there was sufficient space to carry out a landing between the two planes.

As a passenger, I don't care, and I don't think anyone else would either. Simply put, either one of those planes should not have been on the runway proper, while the other was there!

Sensationalist journalism at it's worst!!  There was never any danger, none more than a normal flight.  We don't know the full story, nor have the transcript from the Air Traffic Control.  The pilots and ATC probably did the right thing.

A go-around is not an emergency.  You can approach down to 200 feet, without a clearance to land, before deciding to go around (which it looks like this aircraft did).

There was only one aircraft on the runway at any one time however, you can have more than one on it at any one time.

Maybe the airfield permitted Land and Hold Short Operations, and the landing pilot decided not to use it.

Must be a slow news day.   :disapp:

People in the approaching aircraft probably didn't even know what was going on,mind you the people on the ground aircraft would have been packing little poopies,if they were looking out the windows

Gee, if the plane I was in was all set to land and then suddenly the pilot plants the boot and pulls back on the stick, I reckon I'd notice, Rick...

I've been in a couple of jets that have gone around. I've also done a go around many times myself. No biggy, it's better than not going around.
