I need help.
I've never bought a new car from a dealer before.
There's currently a promotion for i30 SX manual for 19,990 drive away.
How much should I expect to pay realistically? 19? 18.5? 18?
I also want tinted windows, and mats. Should I be able to get these for free?

What are your bargaining experiences?

personally i didn't haggle when i was getting my i30 since i really needed a car quick (reason i didnt get esp etc :( ) but if you have the time, you can easily get alot of things for free and if they refuse you can say you will just go to another dealer. they dont cave, then just go to another hyundai dealer? there are ALOT around so you should be able to get what you want through a bit of persistence.

i've never bought new from dealer either and am planning to haggle like crazy when i finally go to buy (SLX auto 2.0 most likely).

a few things i've read recently
end of month better as dealer my not have met his quota and needs to sell
if you don't like the deal walk away - try another dealer
don't seem too keen but be positive you are buying
don't let them talk you into expensive addons like dealer delivery and tinting as apparently it costs them peanuts (but by all means haggle tinting into the price)
if trading in a car check over the sums before signing as they may add on a change over price (i think that is what its called)

i think tinting and mats etc are quite doable  :)

When they have these drive away price deals the dealer margins are getting a bit thin so I would try for a few freebies but wouldn't expect to get the price down much more

I would agree with Dazz.
When the deals are drive away, dealers are often going into the red just to do the deal. They are subsidized somewhat from the manufacturer, but this doesn't cover all the on road costs. Go for some floor mats and headlights protectors thrown in, and anything better than that would be a bonus.

I UK they have just introduced a £2000 scrap incentive, Government budget 2 weeks ago, if you buy a new car and the trade in car is 10 years plus.

£1000 is from the Government and £1000 from manufacturer.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8012492.stm
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8011742.stm

But a recent article in the press showed that a chap went to do the dealer.  His old banger was worth , I think £3000, so he was expecting £4000 to £5000.

No all they would offer was £2000 under that deal.

Over here some dealers offer a A$2000 minimum trade-in (even if it's an "old banger") but I know from good authority they just add $2000 to the price of their cars in the yard a week or two before the promo (or they used to anyway)

They do that here in Uk.

Like you I always presume they will not loose out so the "offer" is not really an "offer" but a subtle con.

i vaguely recall some discussion recently in aus debating whether a $3000 scrap incentive could be introduced here (honestly can't recall where this was but i heard it on tv one night). thing is many cars over 10 years here are still worth much more than $3000 so it would depend at what level it came in. if it makes the dealer start giving less on trade-in its not much of an incentive at all. i remember it as i said at the time, 'great i'll just run my car into the ground then!'

^with a rebel yell she cried more more more

it is annoying a little as you try to look after your cars but then offering that doesn't give as much incentive to, if that makes any sense

Hi,

About to go down to the local dealer this weekend and see if i can pickup a i30cw to replace the Tucson i have, want to go diesel with the next one (due to the fact i can get about 15l/100km on the Tucson and i hate spending $50+ dollars a week on fuel). I am hoping to get a i30cw SLX Diesel for about $27,000-$28,000 on road, what do you think my chances are at present?

You can definately get one for about 27.5k. I got mine for $28285 drive-away (i30CW SLX Auto Diesel) with extras such as metallic paint, tint (most expensive one in the brochure), carpet mats, and a full tank of diesel.

I was very pleased with a car broker I got my CW CRDI about a month ago.

As they tender out your requirements all over Oz. and they deliver to your door with a full tank... and give you membership to some other good stuff... and they tender out in bulk... they seem hard to beat.

I did a lot of chasing around and bargaining myself locally and around Melb. but they easily beat my best price... they got me an extra $1500 for my trade-in better than I could get elsewhere.

....maybe worth a try.

Can I give their name on this forum?

Terry H

Gee wish I'd had mine long enough to be worthwhile trading on a CW.. But I want a manual so would have to go for SX Diesel and option it up..

Try "Fleet Direct".

They tender out your requirements around Oz and keep you posted as the various offers come in.

Okay went down to Peter Warren today at Liverpool and managed to pickup up two i30cw SLX CRDi 1.6 Auto's for about $29700 each on road. I'm not sure if it is a good deal but the figures when first brought up where way out o my price range. For this i got:

Mats
weather shields
Full tank of diesel

Ordered one in Vivid blue and another in red but unfortunately none in stock (at least in NSW at present and could be 8 weeks for order from Korea). I hope it is sooner as 8 weeks is a long time and missers will be giving birth around then!!!!!

Anyone had any experience with stock levels of these cars?

Firstly congrats on getting two SLX Crdi cw's (i'm jealous )

My guess is they are selling really well - sales of the i30 have jumped several 100 per month since CW was released over here...

We had a couple of members working at Hyundai dealers but one has now gone driving buses and the other....

Sounds good for 2 SLX auto's
FYI my slx manual hatch cost me 30,000 odd with tint mats shields rear spoiler and side skirts(now a tow bar....... rofl)

on the availability, i was quoted just over a month for 2 silver sx wagons, but i'd be surprised to learn they don't send more of them then ordered because they would be one of the better sellers.

Also, hatchs apparently are as soon as you pay, you can drive it away... it was a 3 month or more wait at some point.
