  • My other car has no roof :O Mk1 MX5 1.8
Hello everyboy, it's been a long time since i posted, due to a few reasons. Basically ending up with me becoming the owner of my mums old getz, and my mum getin the i30 (how lucky  was she :P)
We shared the i30 has the getz was off road while i installed a new audio system etc.
Back to the I30.
eye30 had somehow found out about my little accident involving the I30 :(
and made a great suggest to post about, so here goes. ( I have just copied this from my blog on bebo and edited slightly)
~~~
So i was out on a nice leisurely drive and had decided to visit a friend.
After sayin a farewells it was time to leave and move on and visit another friend {im very friendly :P}
Anyhu
turning right,(not left) out of her drive to head the oposite direction a 30 mph zone It was all clear both ways, and car from my right appeared roughly 60metres away. Due to past experaince i shifted to first got the biting point,. observed accelerated and let the clutch out slowly and advacned with my manouevre. Stil looking were i was intending to go. I realised a certain driver was not slowing down and was approaching faster than should be. THe driver did not seem 2 wnt to slow down.. (grrrrrrrrr) and then tried to overtake, despite the road markings warning of a danger. So.. after not following the road markings/signs i was in the middle of a road, like a sitting duck. and a german car was still driving towards me, not slowing down, and changing lane.
Hez not slowing down i thott.. hez not slowing down, hez changing lanes.. hz stil not slowing down... S*7T. right in2 the side o me.
and as you can see in sum of the pictures the result is clear.. a '30' mph crash.. mmm lvly.
Good friday my hole .
~~~~
I think it is fair 2 say, that from looking at these pictures the I30 stood up very well. The inside of the car was in great condition, bar the drivers site, obviously. The airbags deployed(curtain/side) only. But most importantly no injuries hapened to me or my passenger, bar a minor bruise on her leg. My only injuries were typical muscular pain, neck side chest and hip.
It has some form of re-enforced main body shell, which is mentioned in the sales brochure. Im not aware if many other manufacturers have offered a build like this, for a price as reasonable as the I30.
I still have the getz, but my dad has now vowed to help get me into a safer car, more than likely the I30. Very happy with how it stood up in an accident. :D:D What a great Car.

Some more pictures

The 1st picture (post above)
This shows the damage overall to the car, as it as about to go on the tow truck.
The 2nd picture (post above)
This shows how the side curtain airbag has deployed
The 3rd picture
This shows the inside of the car,*notice the door card has cracked, the plastic bit lol*
The 4th picture
This shows the damage slightly closer up

The car has now been deemed a total loss and is unfortunately un repairable. It was only 16 months old, mint condition and had 10,500 miles on it. £20 of petrol and a cd stil in the player :P lol

I'm gutted for you mate. Gutted  :'( :'( :'(

Considering how you got hit you did well to come off without serious injury.

The i30 sure stood it's ground well though...

Sorry to see what happened, glad you are o/k

Amazing lack of injuries considering it was a R/H drive vehicle.

Cheers,

Dazz

Hi syecadelic,

Cheers for posting the update and detailing how well the i30 stood up to the impact.

It great to know that all that sales pitch is not just "hot air" and actually is there.
In your case it prevented any major injuries to you and your passenger.

I'm pleased to hear that your dad has faith in the i30 as he is considering buying you one.

Keep in touch.

wow

really sorry to hear your story but happy that the safety features worked in your favour
thanks for posting this!

just to add here
safety is important factor for me - i had my car just five weeks when had car<truck run into back of me, i still suffer from injuries caused...while there is no full proof method of protection i really want something with higher safety standards than my current car

Just for clarification - Are you talking about the i30 "i had my car just five weeks " or another model?
