Hi all,

Booked in for a 90k service this week, and will need replacing of 2 tyres (specs: 195/65R15).

The Hyun dealer looking to do the service at (Syd, Au) only have GOODRIDE (not goodYEAR) tyres, other brands need to be ordered in. (GOODRIDE seem to be chinese). Anyone know if these ny good?   They didnt give me a quote though (apparently they will call me on the day to confirm the costs before going ahead with replacement).   Any opinion on these?

KTAS (kmart) had kumhos/dunlops for around $135 each tyre incl fitting/balance.  If the Hyun dealer gives me similar priced quote then I guess I am better of sticking to KUMHOs (heard of them before, dunlop had a bad review online)?

Not very technical with cars/tyres. I currently have the default ones (A-drive, yokohama)

cheers

Never ever heard of Goodrides. I'd be doing the Kumhos before them.

lol  yea exactly.

But this is a HYUNDAI DEALER (and theyre quite good at their sales/service).   Was very surprised after speaking to them today. Leaning towards Kumhos myself.

Ive noticed with my i30 the grip is not that good. Like in rain or tight corners the tyres seem to lock a little. Not sure how to explain it (not very tech!) but im pretty sure its a tyre thing rather than a car thing.

Hoping 2 brand new good tyres upfront should improve things for me :D.

Why not go to a specialist tyre dealer. Most Hyundai main dealers will be very expensive - they might even send the car to a local tyre dealer to have them fitted - my dealer does.

Goodride tyres have been around in Oz for quite a few years now. Yes they are Chinese. The company is one of the biggest rubber manufacturers in the world.
We (among others) imported them when I was at TTA.
But I wouldn't fit them to my car - not for any quality reasons - just because there are plenty of better options out there.
Certainly go to a specialist tyre dealer.
I have a couple of observations to make.
Yokohamas aren't fitted new by Hyundai (wrong country of manufacture), so they aren't the originals. I note your car is 2007 so it's probably had a few replacements before.
Secondly, you should take any "on line" bad comments about tyres (and other things) with a grain of salt as people love to complain on line - but rarely post good things).
If Ktas has either Kumho or Dunlop at $135 I'd go with the Dunlop, But either that or the Kumho would be fine.

Definitely use a tyre specialist. The Continental brand always rates well on this site and certain types are quieter on the road, too. Hy are not tyre experts and WILL be expensive.

Me either. And it HAS been more than a couple of years for me.
Although, got offered a three week gig managing a couple of tyre services in August next year for three weeks -in the Whitsundays area.  :whistler:

I hope I haven't some how mislead you Dazz.  When I say 'going to work' what I mean is, maybe two, maybe three days a month I go and do something I absolutely love doing.  I have a nice leisurely drive through some wonderful countryside, sit in a board room for a few hours being fed sarnies and coffee et al, then get given an invoice to fill out.

I mean, what's not to like  :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

I am now seeking a hospital at or near too Whitby which is in need of an Independent Manager <MMMmmm fish n chips>

Haven't heard of goodride, but I run the cheaper Chinese tyres on one of mine, what people have to start realising is no tyres are made here any longer, most are now made in either China,Indonesia or Taiwan,I've never had an  issue with any of the ones I bought
