i30 under UK scrappage scheme

Hi,

I've just joined as I am considering buying an i30 1.4 comfort under the scrappage scheme in the UK. The price quoted is £7995 in the basic solid red. This seems a pretty good deal compared to most deals under the scrappage scheme but ordinarily I wouldn't consider buying a new car. I was wondering if anyone else has bought an i30 under the scheme and whether they were able to negotiate any further discount or extras?

It does look a very tempting price but it is still a borderline decision for me financially between this option and selling my car and buying, for example, a year old cee'd.

Any thoughts appreciated!

WE reckon you should buy the i30 but if you by the 'ceed you're still welcome here...

Hi Andy, welcome to the club.

It's always going to be difficult asking an owners club for an unbiased opinion; for me, from now on, it would always be Hyundai

That said, why not test drive it and let that be your decision maker?

The c'eed would be a good alternative. If you bought a twelve month old one you'd still have 6 years warranty left, against the 5 you would get on a brand new i30.

I don't know anyone who has purchased anything under the scrappage scheme as yet, so can't advise, but that figure you quoted looks amazing, considering I purchased Fergie in March '08 for £16k

This MAY help .... I bought a i30 1.6 CRDi in March this year and Hyundai UK were giving £2100 off the list price. So I thought that there was no point in haggling with the dealer given this huge discount. But I tried to get some things free and succeded. For example got complete set of Hyundai mats and the first full service free and some other bits and pieces. You may get stuff like this easier than money off the purchase price.

I am biased but the i30 is such a good car ... do have a long test drive. Mine was for 24 hrs. And the blue illuminated instruments are so much nicer than the red ones in the Ceed!!!

I'd have to agree I like the blue much better than the red in the new kia cerato (we don't get the ceed in Australia)

Further to my posting at Did anyone paid full price for i30-ask if you can get deals from Hyundai UK 's Affinity Scheme. I got £3800 off my i30 Premium auto plus another £1000 from Gov. scrappage scheme. (only £1000 as they already offered so much off.) £11500otr incl met paint I paid for in the end. Got free mats, half tank of petrol.

£7999 very good for i30 Comfort as it has lots of kit. Why not try i20 Classic at £6750? My mate just brought one under the scheme too. Its not that small and again has lots of stuff inside.

I've just visited my local dealer and they told me that a 1.4 comfort i30 was on order as a display model but with 16" alloys rather than the usual 15" and that I could have that at the usual price of a 1.4 comfort. This seemed a little odd to me as this is a combination that is not available as standard. Does this seem unusual or is this normal practice?

I have just ordered the I30 ES and this is a 1.4 comfort but with 16inch rims, silver grill, climate control and rear parking sensors for an extra £300 on the basic price, so instead of £7995 i am paying £8295 which i think is a pretty good deal and NO they wil not bend on the price because they say that the price with the scrappage and the extra that hyundai are giving off is as low as they can get it.

I've just bought a CDRi 1.6 Comfort through the scrappage scheme with a £1300 discount. This discount was already a Hyundai promotion and I was unable to squeeze anything else out of the deal. I was told that all margins were used up in the scrappage deal (then they would, wouldn't they).
I have no regrets, my old car was becoming a danger with it cutting out all the time and the cost of any diagnostic work to identify the problem was more than the car was worth. The exhaust system and the brakes were about shot as well.
The 1.4 petrol is well regarded and often cited as the star of the range by WhatCar etc. I opted for the diesel for the torque and low running costs.

I looked at year old cars of other makes and you couldn't even buy some of those for the price i am getting my i30 for. If hyundai keep there prices low like this they will take the car market by storm.

I was in almost exactly the same position as you, the only difference was the i30 was steel grey. I decided to go with it even though Hyundai would not budge an inch on price (about £8300, can't remember the exact figure), couldn't even get a full tank of fuel out of them (or mats).

Having had the car for 4 weeks now I'm so glad I went with the i30, I test drove a few cars (including the i10 and i20) but the i30 just proved to offer so much for the money.

As much as I loved my old Mondeo, the i30 is proving to be such a great car.

Hi Lorian and welcome to the club... After you've read all the glowing feedback on the i30 on this site I doubt you will go for a 2nd hand Ford! (or even a new one)

Talkin' of Ford, I think Shambles might be related to Henry.. any colour you like as long as it's Black

I've just bought a i.6 crdi estate under the scrappage scheme and got a total discount of £3400.I believe the rrp of the 1.4 comfort is about £11500 so your discount is about the same.when you calculate your discount as a percentage of the rrp it's a very good deal with or without extras.

Yes was very good deal, replaced all headlamp bulbs imediatly , Philips extreme power for dipped , Osram Night Breaker Main and Superlux T10 W5W 501 Cool White LED side lamp bulbs. No wireing mods required all road legal and the front of the car is like a flood lamp array hehe

Don't buy the Focus-its rubbish. I got a new company Focus as my driving instructor car-The engine is rough, plastic quality really bad. i30 much more refined. It has been trouble some too and Ford Dealership is really poor. Also, £12 for a rear red brake bulb! And people tells me Hyundai's part is expensive! Don't touch a Ford. The only other car is the Golf but it hasn't got the kit the i30 has. Go for silver mate!

How difficult were they to get at to replace?

They are indeed, and quite easy to replace, although you have to remove the whole headlamp unit to get at the bulb holders. There's a thread somewhere by i30manUK with pics giving a step-by-step

What are the characteristics of the sidelight LEDS compared to regular 501's?

The Superlux LED's are a blueish white & about the same brightness as a standard 501 bulb, superlux leds are not to be confused with the normal 4led 501 led's and are far far brighter than these.

They are 1.5W LEDs?

These are really a cosmetic rather than vision/safety change?
