Hi there. I'm posting this for a friend as I was meant to help her with her Hyundai i30 2013 model.

So she has a 2013 Hyundai i30 1.4 with the projector headlights (running halogen lights) and wants to change them to HIDs. She noticed that the bulb in her factory plug was an H7 and so purchased those in the 55W 6000K along with an adapter (). However, it looks like the adapter is wrong - it's definitely used for the Veloster but looks like it way too small compared to the factory plugs.

My question is: has anyone done a setup on the i30 Projector headlights? What bulbs did you use and what adapter did you use?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know if these are legal nowadays, i know they clapped down on the fitting of after market HID's.

I had a set on one of my cars but i did change the light units to projectors that were TUV approved for hid kits but not for the UK and it passed it's MOT with them fitted, but i think thats all changed now and it may well fail nowadays.

From what I understand that the projectors have to be approved for use with hid as they throw a different beam pattern as those with Halogen and the vehicle as to have self levelling suspension or lights and a self cleaning mechanism, they may well  be other restrictions

Hold it. When you say you purchased the HID's, did you buy a kit or just bulbs & adapters. HID's do NOT work unless you have kit which contains all the electronics to make an electric arc in the new bulbs.

In my opinion I would NOT fit them. If the lights are illegal in your country and there is an accident to this, OR ANY OTHER VEHICLE, PERSON OR OBJECT, your insurer will most certainly walk away from any responsibility, leaving the owner liable.

HID's that are NOT OEM fitted are very dangerous devices, the original fittings are not made for them. 6000K might look nice and white, but they are not good in wet weather IMO.

Thanks for the advice guys. Bought the whole set (all wiring included).

If anyone has done this mod that'll be great. I'll advise her that it is illegal, however, I will just like to know regardless for piece of mind. Surely there has to be an adapter or something to fit these lights

It has been done, just hope someone who has done it spots this thread. Try various options in the search function as well and browse mods ( non model specific)

Is this a generic kit, when I fitted mine [not current car] it didn't need no adapters, just a straight bulb swap also to note some kits throw up error codes if not compatable to the car

I used to own a 2012 Kia cee'd (which is pretty much the same car as the i30), and did retrofit 4300K xenon kit. Used the very same adapters. And as you realized, they doesn't fit really - they need some work done, but it's not too much of a hassle
. I did however also need to draw power directly from the battery, otherwise they wouldn't turn on properly.
