Checked bulb .....ok

Checked fuse.......ok

Checked switch in the boot lock is ok

Light off with car lights on or off

Light off with ignition key either switched on or off

Bulb seated correctly in holder

So just wondered whether any other areas to check before i ask dealer to check under warranty

Put a multimeter across the bulb holder terminals and work back from there. Did you check bulb with tester or just looked at filament?

:whsaid: plus did you remove the whole bulb housing from the wing cover to check the spade connectors (it pulls out easily enough)...?

Dealership replaced the boot (trunk) lid solenoid - when the light failed to illuminate

Booked into dealers for next week for them to check it out, problem with wire or holder.

Driving back home I was wondering because of the resistor whether it is a time delay which switches the light off after a set period.
Can't see any mention of this in the handbook though.

So can someone with a gd please check the operation of their boot light.

Also, can they prise it out and see if it has a resistor, same as my picture when i get on my pc and sort the photo out.

Cheers

Yes the boot light goes out automatically after a while ( safety feature in case boot isn't closed to stop battery draining ) and yes there is a resistor in the back of the fitting :goodjob2:

imgur is better for adding photos as well, they store the photos for longer and don't have all the restrictions :link: imgur: the simple image sharer

Do you know how long it stays lit as mine varies between 30 to 60 seconds.

So if that is the case I wonder why the dealer didn't mention it to me plus no mention in handbook.

Looks like a diode. I guess it has two effects. Slightly drops the voltage to the bulb (so it runs cooler and lasts longer) and provides reverse polarity protection (not required at that point)

Just over 20 minutes before mine goes out.

Thanks craigB.

My own thoughts on the time re auto shut down would be say the fade down of the interior light which is several minutes.

Can some others please check their boot light and let me know what happens with theirs before i visit the dealers next week, so i can provide info to them to help my case.

Cruiserfield, wonder if you could check any gd's in your place...thanks

Light not on at all today.

Bulb and fuse ok so think it must be to do with diode/resistor?

Unless the boot lock/switch is the problem but ruled that out as test lamp lights at plug

Hmmm, this was what I was talking about with regard to my headlamp wash problem, the 4 Tech Cee'd is the only one with the system, there are not many 4 Techs on the road and even less than that will have had any issue.  EVERY time somebody needs something from Hyundai it seems to be that their initial appointment is postponed as the part (whatever it is) is on backorder (friend of mine has now been bumped twice on a new clutch for their 09 i30 as they are "waiting for stock to arrive).

How then did Kia manage to give me a date only a week after diagnosing the problem and having to order the (presumably relatively scarce) parts in for the repair and then perform it in the arranged timescale, but Hyundai are constantly on back order even for routine parts?  Very odd.

Rang garage this morning and told lamp holder in.

So had a trip to dealers this afternoon and it has been replaced.

I keep going out every 10 minutes to open the boot....just to see if the light is still working

So it took over a month for them to get a lamp holder?

That is appalling customer service, at the worst they should be grabbing one off the demo runner or a courtesy car and giving you that.

That's something I've always advocated - use the tools at your disposal to keep the customer happy. But no, never happens
