With Firty condemned to parking in the open for at least this year, I'm looking for an adequate yet inexpensive car cover. Any suggestions? I've been looking at the SuperCheap site lately.

Dammit, I won't make it in 10 mins.
Any opinion on relative quality between variations?
Autobarn are an alternative as well.

I see Repco have 40% off all long weekend but I can't see covers on their site. :disapp:

Sorry I can't help you with the covers , have not had any need for them, I have heard that if they don't have some soft lining, that with any wind movement they can scratch the car. Thats about the limit of my knowledge on covers . I am sure you will get some helpful info from the lads soon.

I am not a big fan of car covers Gonz, but sounds like you may not have a lot of choice... Do some googling to see what people who have used them say.

I would think one that will last a minimum of 12 months without ripping or deteriorating due to UV wont be cheap.

The problem is chafing/scratching if dust gets under it. (John beat me, I enjoyed it..)

You are probably better off just washing and waxing it regularly and using a sun shade on the windscreen.. Which I think you already do.

Pricey but sounds pretty good , would not mind one to keep in the car in case of a hail storm when out. :goodjob2:

Pricey .  :link: Car Care Products / Car Care Products / Car Accessories / Car Covers / Hail Shield Car Cover

I agree about the non lined ones.
When my daughter got back from a year in Darwin, we spent all day trying to rescue the paint outer finish from marks the cover left. I'm guessing the marks were in the clear coatings but were very visible after washing. Eventually managed to hide them.
Think a regular polish and wax might be a better option.

Hire the car out... earn a few bucks. Your local taxi firm would do you a good deal :P

Spray it in matte clear plasti-dip. It will protect and it'll look cool (obviously I have no real input)

I personally wouldn't use a car cover,as has been said can create a mess of your paint work,I have one of those 6x3 Mtr temporary garages, have had it up for four years, tie them done well and get the side kits, but have to change the covers every couple of years

Not a fan of those car covers either.

How about at good protective spraywax..  I know a lot of people here protect their caravan with a spraywax when they store it outside for the winter.  Should be very easy to wash off Again, but haven't tried it myself.

I use to use cling film when i showing my car, just on the front end and a quarter up the bonnet to stop all the bugs splattering all over the body.

If you go for a cover you need one thats breathable and lined with cloth and strap it down nice and tight.

They can't be all that bad if collectors use them on there mega bucks cars, but there again they're parked in a garage where they're not left out to the elements

You've all convinced me to reconsider. I may be allocated a garage in the next couple of weeks now, anyway.

I don't like car covers generally.
If you must use one, the inside needs to be a fleecy-type material that will not scratch and they need to be very securely attached. They are not cheap.
The ones available from Supercheap and the like do not have that.
