Just searching on here I read that the i30 does have an alarm.
Hmm.. my car got broken into last week (drivers window smashed)... and no alarm came on.

Maybe they stole the alarm?

Sorry to hear about that, Fryzie. Was a door opened or just the glass broken? A door opening should have triggered a noise...

Sorry to hear that.  Happened to me twice before in other cars but nothing to pinch anyway.. so just had to suffer the damage.

I believe that the i30 does not have a detector for glass breakage or instrusion as such but will detect doors/bonnet/hatch opening and I think attempts to start motor with a key that does not have the transponder in it or closeby.

That might explain it not going off if they didn't open a door for instance but just lent in and grabbed something off the seat.

What actually happened?

They used a spanner or something to try to break into the window by the frame, which smashed in the process.

Just got heaps of stuff stolen from inside the car. (Insurance covering everything)

Aww okies. Anyone know if the alarm is a fairly low end one? Is it worth upgrading it?

My i30 is fitted with a CAT-2 immobiliser system. I had the option of an upgrade to a CAT-1 (Thatcham approved) alarm (£111 in our money), but only found this out after I'd taken delivery. The UK website offers the option. Not sure about retrofit (that's twice I've used that word today) but I can't see it being too difficult.

Mine doesn't have an alarm. I've tried everything to set it off.
Maybe they forgot to activate it ???????

Hm..usually it works when you try to open your car with a key and not remote..

Lock it up with the remote and leave the driver's window open.  Lean in and pop the bonnet.

The standard alarm (which is basically just a horn) should go off when the car senses that a door, the bonnet or the tailgate has been opened and the system has not been disarmed with the remote.

If yours isn't going off, do your lights flash when you lock the car with the remote? It sounds like maybe it's not arming the alarm for some reason. Could be a dicky switch or something.
