I30 CDRI Oil flush

Dear All,

I have an I30 from 2008, that has gone 85000 KM. Last change of oil at last service at 68000. As I primaraly use this to short trips I am always concerned about the engine health.
I have only owned the car since June, but my friend have suggested that we do an oil flush, while replacing the oil.
Is this necesarry? Does it cause more damage than good? Which type of oil do you use? I have not been able to find a clear answer to this, either.

I would NOT recommend an oil flush. Buy the best quality Fully synthetic oil designed to run with the vehicle's DPF, I think it's ACEA C3. Use a grade of oil as recommended in the user manual for the temperatures you encounter.

Change the oil & filter at the recommended interval, you should be fine.

Firstly, welcome.
Secondly, Please don't flush your oil system.
As Phil said. Good correct oil and filter change at correct intervals.

I've used Castrol Edge 5W/30 and Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W/30 on my 2008 with no problems so far @ 225.000 km.

Remember if you have the DPF you must use oil with ACEA C3 spec's.

As told in previous messages, good oil and right oil change intervals are enough when talking about the lubrication system. Exhaust system is different thing.

If you drive only short distances etc. you should sometimes drive the engine to normal operating temperature and then give some"work" to the engine. Diesels do not like short distance driving. If you drive like an old lady with cold engine, you will get some problems. You will clog the catalythic converter and PDF (if your car has it). Some high rev (4000rpm) highway driving for 5-10km will do miracles. It cleans the exhaust etc. I've seen it so many times that diesel car has not passed yearly emission tests because of the owner has been driving it too "economically" or has driven only short distances. Towing a caravan seems to be one of the best ways to bring some life in cloged up engines.
